ios 6 and Alpine iDA-X305

Has anyone tried using the iPhone 5 or an older iPhone with ios 6 on an Alpine iDA-X305 head unit? Any issues? Also wondering if the Lightning connector coupled with the 30 pin adapter has had any problems interfacing with Alpine radios.

I have the iDA-X305 in my car and can confim that the USB to Lighting cable that comes with the iPhone 5 does not work with this. Says USB error and doesn't charge so it's a double wammy.

The 30 pin adapter might work, but I haven't tried it and they seem to be sold out of them everywhere.

On another note, I have the Bluetooth KCE-400BT. Has anyone upgraded this firmware? Does it do AD2P? In other words is there a way of sending song info to the X305 via Bluetooth?

I have the IDA x100 with the kce-400bt module, I can confirm that the iPhone 5 works over Bluetooth with this setup (tried it earlier today).

To play via Bluetooth, simply pair the phone up. when connected, playing anything from the phone will direct audio via Bluetooth, so make sure "Bluetooth" is selected as the source on the head unit.

I'll be using bluetooth until I get an adaptor. However I'm hoping the lightning adaptor will work as the bt sound quality isn't quite up to the wired standard.

Yeah, I have an iPhone 4 and it works fine on my IDA-X305S. I don't think it's an iOS 6 issue. The "USB Error," has been there since iOS 4 (multiple versions) as well as with iOS 5 (all versions), and only pops-up if you're not using the 30-pin Alpine adapter, jailbr0ken iOS or not (Apple censors the word jailbr0ken without the zero, what the fudge?)

Just a hunch, but I have a strong feeling it's going to work on my headunit with the 30-pin adapter to lightning connector. 🙂 Just need an iPhone 5 to try it out!

Also, Bluetooth audio is awful quality for audio and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm sticking to 128kbps minimum, but really, 320kbps (nearly uncompressed CD quality) for everything. Apple should support .FLAC and .WAV files natively. Oh well, whatever, different issue. 🙂

Hi Guys, i am over here in the UK and just got my iPhone 5 today and i have the IDA-X305

i have ordered the 30 pin to lightning connector from Apple at an extortionate price of £29.30 including delivery!

i emailed ALPINE over here today and here is their reply

Hi Wayne

We have no solid information on this just yet, we are developing an adaptor which should be out soon...

Apparently Apple have an adaptor available, we have no idea if this works or not, I've heard rumours that it wont allow 3rd party devices to control the i-phone ?

I have placed you on the mailing list, so we shall contact you as soon as we have tried it all out...

Best Regards

Gait

Yeah, it's probably going to work the way it works now; And yeah, the adapter is propietary overpriced nonsense.

iPod: displays all MP3 tag info / skips / plays. So, works as it should.

Pandora: works as it should.

Spotify (premium): displays all song info., tracks can be paused on the Alpine unit, but must use iDevice to skip/etc.

SoundCloud: must use iDevice to skip/etc. Displays the previous song you listened to on the Alpine display.

iFile (jailbr0ken only): works as it should. Sometimes switches back to the native iPod player.

4G LTE is gonna be awesome for anything that streams. Far less skips when you're streaming in CD quality audio! Plus, audio doesn't tear through bandwidth too badly, even at 320kbps. It's audio. ;P

I too have an iDA-305S and i can confirm:

iPhone4S - iOS6 - Works fine no problems at all. Podcasts also show in the album list now though but the podcasts menu still works as before.

iPhone5 - iOS6 - Using supplied usb cable - Doesnt work get usb device error.

I hope it works with the apple adaptor or alpine come up with a solution or its a £250 headunit down the drain.
