ios 6 on 4s now no text message tone

Noticed this myself this morning on an i4 /w iOS6.

I noticed that too, I also noticed that when you quit the text message app. and locked your phone, the phone would ring twice, for one message. However, this unusual behaviour only occured after viewing your message in the lock screen was set to off. When Setting --> Notifications --> Messages --> View in Lock Screen was set to On, the problems ceased. So I guess for now, ppl are going to be able to see my messages until apple addresses the issue.

I updated back on Sept 19. I didn't notice the text sound issue until Saturday evening just out of the blue. My 4s seem to have worked fine throughout the day Saturday.

Same here...the View in Lock Screen setting seems to be the issue. Frustrating to say the least.

Just a quick question, you are not using any other device with Messages running?

I would do this.

Go into Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings (this will cause you to forget your WIFI network passwords you have entered) but I have found doing this to help me when I had weird imessage/texting issues.

Looks like this is due to purchased/custom text tones. I switched to a stock tone and it fixed the problem. Unfortunate that is the case...

As for the solution provided below .. Problem also occurs when phone is on vibrate. So I'm not sure that changing the ringtone to default tone would do any good!

Add me to the list. After updating to IOS6, my text tone notifications randomly work on my 4s. Tried resetting, did not work. I do not have any custom or purchased tones. Completely stock.

At first I thought it was only if I locked with messages open, but that's not the case. Seems not to matter which screen you are on, or if it's locked.

I don't remember this happening on my 4 after upgrading to iOS 6, only seem to be happening on my iPhone 5.

Thought I was going crazy, glad to see I'm not the only one.

I am having this same issue. The only tones that work 100% of the time are the stock tones. I am hoping that Apple will fix this in an update.

From reading many posts, I have come to the conclusion that this is likely an iOS6 bug effecting all versions of iPhone.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support. They do not yet have this listed as a known issue. I have an open case that is being escalated. Hopefully they will get back to me in a couple of days with an official acknowlegement of the bug. Until they come up with a fix, it looks like we are stuck using the stock tones.

I will report back any updates I get from Apple.

Same problem here on my 4S. Using stock tones... Same behavior. Since I rely on text messages for work this is causing me to miss very important texts.

Praying for 6.01 to fix this bug.
