Q: Home sharing not showing all songs and albums

Having a bit of an issue with home sharing and it's driving me nuts as I just can't seem to solve it.

I enabled home sharing today as my mrs wanted to listen to music on our iPad while she was cooking.

Now here comes the issue, all songs in the iTunes library are showing under the songs tab of the music app but nothing will show under the artist or album section so I don't get any album artwork etc. How ever on my iPhone they show up under albums and artists tab.

The only way to play a song would be to look through the entire library where I'd rather just select the album.

Does anybody have any idea why this is doing it?

Some basic info on my setup.

Ipad 2 running ios6 and latest iTunes installed on a pc.

Pc is hardwired into a wireless router.

All music is stored on my NAS.

iPad 2

You probably used 802.11 n only, not g+n nor b+g+n, right? And restarted your router after that? Then maybe go to your properties of LAN connection in Windows and check both boxes at the "sharing" tab

...something like...."...other users are allowed to use the internetconnection..."

and the second one..."...users are allowed to deactivate or controll this connection..."

Did you clean the windows firewall settings at uninstall itunes of all incoming rules by "bonjour" + "iTunes"?

And did you set your network connection to private?

Do you have the same values on your iPhone or iPad in the WLAN folder under DHCP and BootP? If not, do that.

I'm just trying to help, so if that's complete ********, don't blame me*lol

It worked for me and I have done everything mentioned in this and other forums. I didn't read about that, so just saying, maybe it will work.

It shouldn't be that complicated, apple is supposed to be idiot proof and easy to set up now, isn't this their motto that you don't need a catalogue. Did you also notice that after iOS 6.1 and the new Apple TV update that remote on ipad  doesn't connect to appleTV. That remote on ipad just became useless, I think I will just delete the app it is good for nothing now.

iOS 6.1 Music App on iPad 3 pulled my ENTIRE home share library for the first time.

Yesterday, I was sad to see the short list of four things that iOS6.1 would fix, and that it didn't include a fix for this bug and some others that many of us are struggling with. Figured there was no point in updating to 6.1 last night, but decided to do so this morning.

After updating I had to confirm my iCloud credentials to get into the iPad, hopped into the Music app. Shared library ... and it is taking a considerable amount of time to load. Probably close to a minute passes and I start to see a whole bunch of tiles. It pulled in about 115 rows x 4. Yes, Music pulled 460+ Albums, which is where our library is currently at. Just the other day it pulled only 100+.

So, knock on wood. iOS 6.1 may pull all the albums from a shared library. If not at least for a day.

I will see if I quit music and restart the iPad what happens.

Quit Music app. Shut down iPad 3. Started it up.

Music does pull in all albums again.

No crash during search. I was in Album view. Tried a couple artist names and it filtered live.

Seems like I can't search by title word. Or anything other than artist names. Any word other than an artist name is blank. Of course it gives the Continue Search in the iTunes Search button ...

Still remaining to be fixed / improved for me:

    - restart Music with last connected library -- I have no intention of trying to store nnn GB of music on an iPad. Shouldn't have to reconnect manually every time.

    - cache the shared library + art work -- no need for it to need to reread everything from scratch every single time and it is embarrasing that it only loads the artwork as you scroll through the list.

    - add a manual refresh library option and / or option to add new shared albums, for when I convert some more music

I hope everybody will send their renewed feedback to Apple. Music & Home Sharing may not be high on their important list, but this is just beyond embarrasing for such a music centric company.

Just installed 6.1 on my iPad and thought.. ok ill see if the home sharing bug is fixed.

Started music app. Clicked on More, Shared,  library and picked my library.

All music appeared ( after some delay) then clicked on search. Entered an artist name.

Appeared to work. Played a song from that artist. Cleared search. All artists came back. Started entering another search.

    CRASH.

Problem is NOT solved by 6.1 upgrade.

How silly of me to get my hopes up.

    No.

Our shared music library is on a mac mini which hasn't been shut down / restarted since I last added some albums, which is probably about a week.

Installed ios 6.1 on my iPad 4. Logged out and logged in homesharing. Then tried to access the iTuneslibrary on my PC, with the iPad music App. Starts searching for a while and then crashes time after time. So, Apple, this is even worse than before.

When I want to shut down iTunes on the PC, it warns me being used in our network by the iPad. Huh ?

Our first computer was an iMac g3. Later we switched to Windows, mainly for our kids' schoolwork (no item anymore nowadays by the way). A bit tired of all the computerproblems with windows, I was thinking about my next computer being an Apple again...

Now, with all this **** happening, I have my doubts about Apple in the future.

Apple, get your **** together !

i want to view all music via airplay on any airplay ios device, and i want correct album artwork.

i don't want it to crash when i search for a keyword (album, artist, song)

They don't read anything and they have no idea this is happening, I called support today and told them about it, they were like "we never heard about it before" I also told them about the iPad remote app not connecting to the Apple TV they were like "hmmm this is weird"

So iOS tossed me to iTunes department who said that this is App department issue so they sent me to the App department, another 10-15 minutes wait before they answered and said this is an iOS thing because it got affected by iOS after being changed today, I told them it started happening when itunes 11 was released, so they sent me the generic email that says reset router, reinstall itune yada yada, which I actually did again and it did not change a bit. Does somebody have Tim Cooks or Jony Ive's email? They need to know how bad their departments suck.

This was happening to me so I read some the replys. One said to go to:

    1. Settings

    2. Music

    3. Home Sharing

    4. Log off and back on, but that didn't work for me

    This is want I did:

    1. Settings

    2. Music

    3. Group By Album Artist

    4. set to off

    That worked

    Hope this helps someone.

Even if they don't read this forum (I actually know they don't),  do they read the feedback?

How can they have "no idea this is happening" when this has been reported many times via the feedbackpage?

So it's pointless to give Apple feedback?
