Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

My phone seems to be loosing battery really quickly. It came only slightly charged but I have since fully charged it and notice it drains much faster than my iPhone 4. Is anyone having similar issues? Frustrating!

Yes, mine is terrible too. Loses 1% every two minutes literally while in use. Dropped 16% in standby for 5 hours with no use. My iPhone 4S would lose only 2-3% a day on standby and I never had any problems with it.

Also I notice that processor performance is sporadic. The more its charged the faster it operates, but not always. Last night the OS was blazing fast and today it's slower than the iPhone 4S on a full charge while being plugged in.

Both my iPhone 4S 64GB and my new iPad 32GB came with 80-90% charge. My friend's new iPhone 5 32GB from AT&T came with an 80% charge. My new iPhone 5 64GB for Sprint came with a 50% charge.

The battery charges rapidly but also loses power just as rapidly. I've had all apps closed, Bluetooth and location services turned off, etc. I have done a restore from my 4S backup as well as a fresh wipe and same issues. I am not on LTE because Sprint doesn't have it turned on in my area yet, so only 3G from them but I'm on Wi-Fi mainly anyway.

Are there a bad batch of phones out there?

I've closed all my running apps, Bluetooth etc which may have helped a little bit but its still losing battery life quickly. And what's the point of having the option to run apps and use LTE if the battery can't handle it. I got the new iPhone for its improved capabilities, not so I would have to baby it. Mine came barely charged from the box as well. Hope that there is a fix or recall or something.

Well guys. My new iphone5 was at 100% at 8:00am. I made three phone calls for a total of 26 minutes. at 21:00, the battery was down to 61%. I spend less than half an hour on the web, sent three texte messages and ask Siri a few things. It's now 20:00 and my battery is...dead. 8%. I' m done with Apple, see ya iMac, iPods, ipad, iphone 4 and iphone5.

Hey everyone,

I am having the same problem with the battery as you guys mentioned earlier... I bought the iphone 32gb white one on Friday from Chadstone apple store at melbourne. And the same night, I felt something wrong with the battery so went to the store next day and got a new white 32gb..I think its the same with this one..If I use the phone, keeping 3g or wifi or bluetooth off, and listen to music then the battery drains quickly...a 5 min call on facetime lost me 10 % battery..i did all the tweaks like switching off location services, removing push mails...it didnt work on the old phone..

also on using facetime for 5-10 min, phone's backside was literally hot..this is my 1st iphone...always dreamed of it...and now its turning into a terrible experience.. How can we make apple listen...??

My phone arrived yesterday afternoon with close to 100% charge. With all the use it had from 3:00 until 11 or so last night, it only dropped to 75%. Today, after a full day of normal use, surfing, talking and messaging, using wi-if and 3G or 4G, I still have 43%. I wonder if the phones that are having problems were already showing trouble by having a low charge when they were first opened. When I said something at the Apple store today about being surprised to see a full charge when I got my phone, the guy said that is how it is supposed to be. If mine keeps staying like it is now, I will be happy with it.

i am a mixed bag on the battery life. I will need to give it a few more days before I believe it is a problem. I will say that I went to a football game with a full charge and when I left it was half down. I only made maybe 5 mins of phones and took 10 pics and used safari for 2 mins. So to lose this much battery is ridiculous.
