iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

I have done DFU mode and restored the firmware.

I have restored phone as new and reinstalled everything manually (no iTunes backup, no iCloud backup)

I will charge overnight and see how a full charge works for the day tomorrow and report back with info.

Although, typing this post just ate up 3% of batter so it's not looking promising, but we'll see.

mikgab,

Out of curiosity, what is off/on under your "system services"? You can find this in: settings/privacy/location services/. Here is what is on/off on my phone and it has helped with the battery life. Not getting what apple claims on he website, but definitely not draining as fast. Note sure which option is causing the most drain, though.

I turned off:

- diagnostics and usage

- genius for apps

- setting time zone

"location based iads" was turned off already.

I have not tried the restore and setup as new method yet. I charged my phone to 99% this morning and used it through out the day at work making calls, sending some texts, playing with the 3D map feature, etc. Left on the options that make using the iphone enjoyable or functional, including LTE. 10 hours later, my battery is at 46%.

Hi,

I just have Siri on in location services. I am getting pretty good WiFi battery life, but LTE has been suckin my battery dry.

This evening I did a complete restore and so far on WiFi the battery life is good and I just shut off the system services you listed.

It would be great if my battery life is similar to yours tomorrow!?! Crossin my fingers!

Thanks for your assistance!

Cheers,

M

Although I really appreciate your posts, I am disappointed to report that I have performed your exact steps and I don't see much improvement thus far on my battery. My battery was never draining as rapidly as others were reporting; I charged it fully overnight and from 7am to 4pm with moderate use, I was at 15%. Compared to the iPhone 4 I replaced with this new 5, this is bad. Since I have done the factory reset from scratch and have manually reloaded all apps, I am at 75% remaining after approx 2.5 hours of light texting and music playback... Not seeing much difference between the iCloud restore and the trot Nixon method. I will make a Genius Bar appointment for Saturday if the problem persists.

Are you in Canada? I'm curious to see if anyone here in Canada is having this issue.

I hope apple releases an update to address this issue ASAP.

Hi There,

I am trying your fix right now using my MacBook Pro, and it says it's going to take about 30 minutes, does that sound normal?

Connect to your computer and iTunes.

Do a reset by holding the home and power button.

Right when your phone turns off, let go of the POWER only.

iTunes will then recognize and iPhone launching in recovery mode.

Restore the factory settings as prompted.

Load every thing individually from the cloud, iTunes, but don't restore from back up.

Question:

When you say "Load everything individually from the cloud, iTunes, but don't restore from back up,"

What exactly do you mean?

Sorry, I am a techno-nitwit:)

When I first got my iPhone 5, I was rather rushed so I did a restore from teh last backup of my iPhone 4. My battery would only last about 5-6 hours. Since then, I remembered about the Exchange issue mentioned earlier in this thread and I deleted my exchange account and re-added it. Since doing that, I let the iPhone drain to 0% last night and shutoff. After charging over nioght, I unplugged it this morning, and according tothe usage stats, I've used it for 7 hours 42 minutes today, and it's been 15 hours 40 minutes since I've unplugged it this morning. I still show 8% remaining on my battery meter, and I remember that last night it lasted 12-13 minutes when it was only showing 1%.

I work in an area with very poor AT&T cell coverage, but I am on wifi most of the day. I have almost all other settings at default, so many of the location services are on, and most of my 25-30 eamil accounts are set to fetch every 15 miutes (although 5-6 are set to "push"). This is a little better than what I would get form my iPhone 4 (without the Mophie Juice Pack Air connected), but not as good as I would prefer...
