iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Hello Hikerlass,

most likely, your IP-5 HW is *NOT* the reason for this issue.

Me and some other people expect, that a SW-patch will solve it.

Have a look on my post some days ago here in this thread.

I made several tests (time measurements) and my conclusion was: When using the 3G data connection, especially when WLAN is running in parallel, the transmitting unit seems to have unusual (high) demands. If you, for expample, only use WLAN connection (mobile data off), the HW surpasses the given specifications.

I´m sure, that the Apple-People well recognized this (relatively long) thread here and I´m confident, that they will solve the problem as soon as possible.

Edit: In addition, an high amount of IP-4 and 4s users also suffering on battery drain from their devices, since updating to IOS 6.

Sometimes, an error occors. Although this is Apple, they are only humans there, no aliens :-).

I've purchased every iPhone to date starting since the 3g for the past several years and each year I hoped the battery life on their mobile products would improve. Each new phone failed to keep up to my expectations, but was somewhat decent and somewhat comparable to what apple claims their product battery life specifications are. I'm an apple fan boy and always will be, but this iPhone has the utmost horrible battery life I've seen in all my years of using apple phones. I can watch my percent drop almost every minute that I type. It's scary. Charging doesn't even work sometimes. I have AppleCare and thankfully they replaced my iPhone after sleep/wake button at the top stopped working for no apparent reason (with no physical damage and even after a software restore).

I've true everything to fix the battery life. My brightness is beyond low, location services/wifi/Bluetooth are all off. All apps are up to date. I always keep the multitasking tray to a minimum in terms of minimizing background activity. Nothing has worked. Even after playing a couple games on my phone the battery life goes from a full charge to lower than 35%. To make matters worse, I know 7 people with the new iphone and each one I've asked says their battery life is completely unimpressive. Come on apple.....

Well, I've done the update, yes we shall see how it goes. One thing I noticed immediately following the update was that I was getting four to five bars again with my carrier EVEN with LTE! That's weird because I was only getting two with LTE before and three just with 3g on. Wifi is a little less though..it hasn't affected anything. As a test I watched about twenty minutes of video on Netflix. Battery went down about 4 percent..don't know how good or bad that is...not awful.

It's too early to tell if anything else improves but, I hope it certainly does. I've left LTE off though and won't turn back on unless I want or need the speed of it for something. The top priority is getting a good long battery life.
