iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

So this is my conclusion: LTE is definitely the culprit. I use this device on 3G most of the time and get approximately the same battery life as my old iPhone 4...

No matter the LTE signal strength, it just burns through battery. Tried LTE today thinking the 6.0.1 update would contain a fix: no dice.

Extremely misleading and unfortunate.

Hey, Just a thought, the iPhone 5 is set up to have apps running in the background right? Pressing the home button doesn't shut down the app it just takes you to the home screen leaving the app running in the background. If you double tap the home button you will see all the open apps in the dock bar (scroll across to see them all). Long press the app until the minus appears and then close the apps. I was just speaking to Apple and they said the usual garb about setting incoming email to manual and turning off notifications, but I suspect this may help too. I will keep an eye on it and see if it gets any better

Yep, Thanks. I had been making sure all my aps were closed every 15 minutes or so. Of course, I wasn't using the phone much at all, so there were never more than 2 or 3 that needed to be closed.

My replacement iPhone just arrived this evening, so tomorrow, when I get it restored, I'll start measuring to see if it's any better. Let's keep our fingers crossed...or wait...maybe there's an ap that will do that for us. 🙂

Hi DeFective: Got the replacement iPhone 5 today. It was 100% charged at 4:45 p.m. - and I turned off LTE as you suggested. Had Blue Tooth on in my car for about half an hour, did some texting, answered some e-mails, uploaded some photos - the usual. It's almost 9:45 p.m. and I still have 83% battery life. Much more respectable than the previous 5. The previous 5 would have been at like 45% by now.

Now, I'm testing with LTE on and will watch it over the next couple of hours. Will post my results.

Thanks for the tip!

I had this problem and tried all of the solutions, ie deleting caches, resetting settings, turning off location services etc. I found a thread that suggested it may be an iCloud issue. I went to settings, deleted iCloud account and then left it for a few hours. Bingo battery back to normal. I re signed in to iCloud....4 hours later still ok. Please give this a go!

So, i am a bit confused. Can i restore from back up AFTER setting it u as a new phone? I wouldnt mind starting fresh as a new phone, but I STILL have no idea where notepad notes, and Voice memos sync to. I cant lose them.

So, when you say "restore from icloud" how do I do that, and how is that different than "restore from back up"

My battery on the 5 ticks down like no other battey ive ever seen. it's horrible.

thanks for the help

FYI there is _NO_ fix for this. This is either a hardware problem with select phones or some very serious bug deeply ingrained in the iOS 6.0 & 6.0.1 operating system. I have used my phone on various 3G networks in six different countries now. I exchanged the phone once and I have done a DFU restore and tried the phone wiht no apps and iCloud disabled. The horendous battery drain is the same every time always no matter what if cellular data is turned on. Turrn cellular data off and battery life is fine. Apple has really screwed their customers on this one.
