iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Well, igkass most of us have turned off those functions as well as quite a few others. At this point might as well say "go to the button on the top of your phone and hold down until the phone goes dark, when you need to make a phone call go back to the button and hold down again until the phone turns on, make call, hold button down again and leave phone off until needed again. This will greatly improve your battery. You should get an additional two hours this way." lol.

Not to be sarcastic at all it's just most of us have had to turn off the functions that made this phone attractive in the first place in order to get any functional service for the day out of this phone. That's where it stands and the way this phone is going to "work" for us? Not worth it. The advertising page for the iphone 5 is a fairytale compared to RL function. To me in the end that indicates quite a rip off. Especially with no official word from Apple. Done turning things off or on, or making sure I can't use this function or that. I'll just throw good money after bad and go buy more chargers to adapt to practically any situation because this phone is going to need to be plugged in at least twice and many times three times a day to go back to a full charge. This is going to be SO much fun to travel with...not.

My phone was at 100 percent with LTE turned off three hours ago. I sent three small texts and it's been on stand by since then. It's now at sixty four percent. ALL I did was send three texts. This is really annoying and every time I have to recharge I feel ripped off again.

Now the other night my iphone 5 started to make a rattle noise.. Does anyone else phone makes a rattle noise on top of their battery draining.. I called Apple and the guy told me it was normal? I just got this phone last Wednesday. Never had this many problems with a phone. My iphone 3g was perfect in the 3 years I had it compared to this. I am upset i was so quickly to give it up for this phone but I love my phone I just feel it is going to break one me each day.

Having same issues - 2 year old iphone 4 (with poor battery life) is outlasting the iphone 5 with LTE turned off.

So went to apple store and the 'lead genius' told me the reason why I am experiencing battery problems is to do with restoring from iCloud. "Apparently' there is a bug they cant find which is draining the battery (but not from restoring from Computer. He said to fix:

A. back up to computer and restore to new iPhone 5.

B. recalibrate the battery (please explain????!) - said to do this everyday for 2 weeks. drain it completely and then charge. (common mate just spent $900 on a phone and you want me to do what?)

I cant see how it will happen - but he said if done the phone will work easily for 24-48hrs even when using LTE (bit of BS i think).

Anyone had any experience or exposure to this?

My wife and me just got our iPhone 5 a few days ago and I immediately noticed our iPhone 5's battery life are very short. It only lasted for a few hours. So, I tried different methods to solve the problem.

Finally, I did 3 steps and the battery problem is completely solved.

Go to "Settings", click "General", click "Reset", then "

1) Reset All Setting

2) after I did step 1, I turned off my iPhone.

3) Reboot my iPhone 5, "Erase All Content and Settings"

It works, both my wife and my iPhone5 are normal. The battery life is now the same as my iPhone4. No need to turn off iPhone5's features.

Wow, my phone decided to be super-charged today. I got it last Monday and Saturday night was the first time that I charged it overnight. Previously, I charged it whenever it dropped to ~10% but now I am just going to charge overnight. 5.5 hours at 42% is leaps and bounds better then what I was getting before.

Brightness is maybe 1/4 of the way, LTE is off (I'll test with LTE on during the next charge), Wifi off when outside. Location services on for certain things. I used my phone very naturally today. Some texting here and there, replying to emails, social apps (Facebook, Flipboard, Instagram, Twitter), checking sports scores. No games, but that's not an effort to save battery life, I just don't really play games on my phone.
