iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

You are not alone.

I have noticed SIGNIFICANT battery performance decrease moving from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5.

Few things you mignt want to consider, ensure to minimize everything that uses location based services that you dont need. Try to reduce the brightness of you screen. at 50% you can certainly use it almost everywhere. If you go outside, then put it up to 100%

Again, with all this, I still get less autonomy than what I'm used to with my old iPhone 4. Bigger screen means more power.Maybe LTE requires a lot more power (we saw that when 3G came along a few years back) or is it just bad software?

I don't know, but it surely ***** (pun intended)

Good luck!

It's my wife's phone, so I don't have detailed measurements. (I have a 4S.) What I know is that on Saturday morning, the phone was draining at an ungodly rate (like 33% in an hour or two), and it was hot, and she was thinking of sending it back and going back to the 3GS (which had a dying battery). After the Reset All Settings, the phone cooled off almost immediately, and she says it's now behaving fine.

My guess is that if it's a ridiculously short battery life, that it's probably a settings glitch or a hardware problem. If it's "I thought it would last a bit longer than this," then maybe it's a question of turning off location service or iCloud or something like that.

I did the 'trot nixon' restore also.

it's definately restoring from old backups thats the issue in my opinion.

i know it's not ideal but it worked.

It solved all my issues and now i can enjoy my new phone without having to worry.

The battery it lasting a very long time now. I just finished a 20 min call and still on 100%.

Before that it would have drained about 20% of the battery.

If you can guys, try it.

i'm quite glad something has forced me to start a fresh.

i also found a way of restoring sms if anyone would find that useful.

WOW thats great, i'm happy you got your sorted out.

My battery life is still pretty bad after the full restore and set up as a new phone. Does anyone run an activity manager??? Mine is running saying:

114MB Wired, 156MB Active, Inactive 68MB and 499MB Free. Thats after killing all apps running.

Under processes there is still 58 processes running to include mail, phone, camera and app store.

My stand by time is ok, but as soon as i start using apps the battery goes down pretty fast. Made a 35 min call today and lost 10 percent battery.

Cheers,

M

thanks, yeah all seems fine now.

i was running an activity manager and it was saying similar.

i'm amazed at how well it's doing. still on 100% and been using it for the past hour.

i'm not sure why it's not helping your situation.

did you do the plug in, hold home and power then release power as the phone turns off?

i followed trots instructions exactly and installed everything again from the itunes app purchased list.

nothing at all from icloud or computer backup.

hope you get it sorted.

Follow this to a TEE. I did not restore from Icloud but did it manually...so far all good !

Hey guys,

I took my phone to the Genius Bar today and we came to the conclusion that my backup that I loaded from the cloud was not meshing with my new phone and/or iOS 6. A tell tale way to know if you have a software issue is to look at your usage and standby time. If they are really close to the same, but you haven't been using your phone much, then there is a faulty background process going on.

The solution is to NOT load your new iPhone from back up. Here are the steps that 100% fixed my problem.

Connect to your computer and iTunes.

Do a reset by holding the home and power button.

Right when your phone turns off, let go of the POWER only.

iTunes will then recognize and iPhone launching in recovery mode.

Restore the factory settings as prompted.

Load every thing individually from the cloud, iTunes, but don't restore from back up.

It takes a little extra work but my phone is a juggernaut now.

Hope this helps.
