Will be returning my Iphone 5 for full refund (still under 14 days)& will stick to my old iphone 4s which have far better battery life with ios6.The battery is the main problem in iphone5 3G browsing drain battery at 1% / 2 minutes.

Mine drains that fast with wi-fi.  I lose 2-3% reading and replying to an email.

Apple is sending me out a new phone so let's hope this does the trick.  Seriously, if it hadn't been beyond the 14-21 days, I would have bagged it and gotten a Samsung Galaxy 3.  Would have saved tons of hours of time for everyone...I'll let you know if I have improvement with this new phone...

Have you tries going into settings then general then cellular and turning off data for iTunes?

This fixed the problem for me.

Interesting.  I turned off pretty much everything over the past month.  When I get the new phone, and if it still has excessive battery use, I will try that.  My phone diminished 7% an hour just standing by.  On one day, it was more than that - 1% every 5 minutes.  Standing by with everything off.

So this is my conclusion: LTE is definitely the culprit. I use this device on 3G most of the time and get approximately the same battery life as my old iPhone 4...

No matter the LTE signal strength, it just burns through battery. Tried LTE today thinking the 6.0.1 update would contain a fix: no dice.

    Extremely misleading and unfortunate.

So I turned my phone of overnight lastnight and am now on pace for over 7 hours usage compared to the 5 hours I was getting before.  I don't know why that would help but it has.

Hey, Just a thought, the iPhone 5 is set up to have apps running in the background right? Pressing the home button doesn't shut down the app it just takes you to the home screen leaving the app running in the background. If you double tap the home button you will see all the open apps in the dock bar (scroll across to see them all). Long press the app until the minus appears and then close the apps. I was just speaking to Apple and they said the usual garb about setting incoming email to manual and turning off notifications, but I suspect this may help too. I will keep an eye on it and see if it gets any better

Yep, Thanks.  I had been making sure all my aps were closed every 15 minutes or so.  Of course, I wasn't using the phone much at all, so there were never more than 2 or 3 that needed to be closed.

My replacement iPhone just arrived this evening, so tomorrow, when I get it restored, I'll start measuring to see if it's any better.  Let's keep our fingers crossed...or wait...maybe there's an ap that will do that for us.

When I get my phone set up, I'll try it with and without.  It would be great if that turns out to be the culprit. Apparently in my neck of the woods, AT&T has something called, 4G Lite?  not sure what constitutes the 'lite' part, but I'll test both ways.  Thanks!

Hi DeFective:  Got the replacement iPhone 5 today.  It was 100% charged at 4:45 p.m. - and I turned off LTE as you suggested.  Had Blue Tooth on in my car for about half an hour, did some texting, answered some e-mails, uploaded some photos - the usual.  It's almost 9:45 p.m. and I still have 83% battery life.  Much more respectable than the previous 5.  The previous 5 would have been at like 45% by now.

Now, I'm testing with LTE on and will watch it over the next couple of hours.  Will post my results.

    Thanks for the tip!

Well, I was hoping 6.0.1 would resolve battery issues, but no luck.  The only thing that works for me is keeping LTE off.  Time to move on, it is what it is.  I purchased a car charger and additional Lightning cable from the Apple store so I can charge the phone in the car and just have to deal with it.

I had this problem and tried all of the solutions, ie deleting caches, resetting settings, turning off location services etc.  I found a thread that suggested it may be an iCloud issue. I went to settings, deleted iCloud account and then left it for a few hours. Bingo battery back to normal.  I re signed in to iCloud....4 hours later still ok.  Please give this a go!

So, i am a bit confused.  Can i restore from back up AFTER setting it u as a new phone?  I wouldnt mind starting fresh as a new phone, but I STILL have no idea where notepad notes, and Voice memos sync to. I cant lose them.

So, when you say "restore from icloud" how do I do that, and how is that different than "restore from back up"

My battery on the 5 ticks down like no other battey ive ever seen.  it's horrible.

    thanks for the help
