3g and brightness eating battery life.Simple as that leaks.

We use 2 iPhone 5 since about 3 days.

Worst buy ever since hardware has developed . My wife's gets warm and runs out of battery in 4 hours. Mine lasts about 6 hours (25 emails, 80 messages).

We will have to send back both, I am afraid, which is a shock, after having used all generations of iPhones.

Samsung will win the battle if quality stays an issue .

Ive had an iphone ever since the 3g. Swar I would never have anything else.

Just sold my iphone 5 (main reason battery sucked) and purchased galaxy note 2.

Best decision ive made on phones! Dont know how I stuck with apple for so long

I just got the iPhone 5 last Friday, and I was having major battery issues as well. One of the biggest reasons I wanted a new phone was because my iPhone 4's battery wouldn't even last a day (it used to last me 2-3 days with regular usage). Well, I read someone's trick in here to turn the iAds off (this I don't mind doing; but everything else I use needs to stay on) and that helped some. What really helped, however, was charging it with it turned completely off overnight. It's now almost 7:30 pm and my phone is at 83%, and I've used it to talk, text, browse the web, view a YouTube video, check email, and even used it as a HotSpot for about 20 minutes.

Yesterday at this time, with less usage, it was down to 32%, so I really think this did the trick

so just got the 5--first apple product since the apple2e

    my battery ***** also.

im at 60 percent with 3hrs 14min usage and 11hrs 30 min standby--mostly lte during the day and wireless the last 40  min.  are these numbers really bad or on average with the rest.

I've posted many times there is 1424mAh VS 1440mAh battery in iPhone 5. Is anyone aware of this?

  • Pfeifler Level 1 (0 points)

60%? 6.5 hrs usage and 22 hrs std by , I would say that is good. Close to specs.

  • canemh Level 1 (0 points)

How do u tell which one u have

  • Pfeifler Level 1 (0 points)

You see the batteries labeled that or view the values from an app?  I would get the apple store to verify the exact battery model.  They prob have better tools.

My battery life is pathetic.  Its fine as long as I dont use my phone.......actually it isnt even if I dont use it.  This morning since 8am I have made 3 short calls of less than a minute and done five minutes of browsing and read a few emails and I am down to 62%.

My colleague who has the same iphone five purchased on the same day was having the same issues.  He has switched off 3g and has used his phone loads today and is only down to 97%.

I am going to try that tomorrow. How strange though.  I know 3g uses battery but whats the point if you have to have it switched off all the time. Bit pointless phone!!

I have to say that this is making me want to change phone brands. I have tried various android phones and not felt that the o/s was as polished as my iphone but it is getting close.  Basically if apple dont fix the pathetic battery I am going to have to buy a different brand. I cant wait another 2 years before they bother to bring out an updated model!

I have 52percent 4hrs usage and 13hrs standby. Half of usage has been listening to sirius. All usage has been on wifi and cellular is on

  • route00 Level 1 (0 points)

I have 1 percent  10 hrs usage and 20 hrs standby.  All usage has been on wifi.

    but over 3g only 3.30hrs.

I am posting this in the hope that someone at Apple is reading the blogs.

    Here's my progression:

    - 6:38 am Usage 0; Standby 0; Battery 100%

    - 6:50 am Usage 3; Standby 12; Battery 99%

    - 6:54 am Usage 6; Standby 16; Battery 98%

    - 7:01 am Usage 14; Standby 24; Battery 95%

    - 7:06 am Usage 18; Standby 28; Battery 93%

    - 7:21 am Usage 33; Standby 43; Battery 89%

    - 7:23 am Usage 36; Standby 46; Battery 88%

    - 7:32 am Usage 44; Standby 55; Battery 86%

I can see the battery drain in front of my eyes.  Usage? nothing, basically looking at the phone and taking screenshots.  I am on LTE and WiFi is on (why wouldn't it be - I paid for a multimedia phone).

I've seen somewhere else that there may be a bug linked to tethering (which I don't use) and the cell usage statistics - interestingly enough, it gives me a "Lifetime" usage of 12 days, 0 hours, which is fascinating since I bought the phone only about 9 days ago.

I have done the various "soft resets" suggested elsewhere in the thread.  I have yet to do the full "restore as a new phone", but I have seen other people going through that pain in the neck process to no avail.

My suggestion to you is to let the battery die completley, absolutley dead, so that the screen won't even come on, then let it charge fully using a wall socket charger, not a computer, (Doing this will give you at least 4 percent more battery life that what you are getting now. Every time you do this your battery should go up a bit, if you have been not going full charges and drains.

Also, when you got the phone, did you plug it in and let it charge fully? or did you just start to use it and plug it in for a bit, because the first charge is the most crucial to your battery life.

But the smallest things can help you with your battery, turning off location services, lowering the brightness on your screen, restarting your phone sometimes can help too.
