Great discussion thread guys! I bought my iphone 5 from one of the 2 local network providers here in Dubai and am greatly disappointed! The restoration from Icloud was good although not all data has been restored til now even though the phone has been repeatedly connected to wifi connections throughout the week. The basic 3G/data and mobile signal is really disappointingly slow......even with a 3G network and 3 bars of signal it won't refresh internet content and takes forever to load any pages, on top of this the connectivivity to apps such as WhatsApp is ridiculous - it shows messages as received but when you go into the app it decides its not and can't connect - how is this possible? My iphone4 or 5 have sat on my desk for the past 2 years in the same offices - the first in an office which is an internal office, within a concrete construction and no outside walls or windows.....full signal all the time.....and the iphone 5 is now sat on my desk on the 14th floor of a high rise with a window within 20 metres..............additionally there is then the battery life issue.......although this was also present in iphone 4 I would at least be able to get through from 6.30am until about 6pm on one full charge depending on usage.......now - my iphone from 6.45 this morning and a full charge until now - no calls or sms only maintaining network connection and a few whatapp messages......I'm down to 50% battery life.......oh and its 10.51am.....Looking at the apple info on the same - on standby 225 hours....hahahahahahahahah!
I have the same issues as others at home with my wifi - I'm using a cisco router which works perfectly and without issue for my macbook, ipad2 and iphone 4s.......but not my iphone 5??? side by side with the others, in the same room as the router and it gets 50% less signal......go figure! I will try the various suggestions here for correcting this and hope that one works...if not (as is my suspicion) that although promised faithfully by the vendor that the phone is factory unlocked and untouched......I am 99.9% sure they have some software or something installed that is causing these issues....either from the point of provision of 3G network and "managing" the network to registered iphone 5 users or something in the phone that blocks the wifi connectivity. If I cant fix it, it will go back to the vendor for a full refund and then either purchase from apple direct or pay more and go to another source.
very frustrating!
