Q: issues with wifi on iphone 5

I was able to fix mine (I think) by checking Don't Send on Diagnostics & Usage. I've tried this on two different wifi's and it seems to be fixed!!!

I had trouble connecting to wifi w/o being right next to it. After reinstalling new OIS and no result, I was told to return to Apple. I did that today and the new one works fine. Return and get a new one.

Thanks leashy79 ...  reset Network Settings got WiFi working on my I Phone 5 finally and its faster than ever...

Local apple store genuis bar told me the iphone5 wifi issue is due to home routers that use WPA/2 security. Iphone 5 / IOS6 in some combination don't like it. I was advised to change my router security from WPA/2 to WEP which they had found works. I have done this and confirm no further wifi issues (slow, dropping out, not connecting etc). In due course an upgrade will resolve but this is a short term solution. I did it online - my router settings can be accessed on the web. However when you change security settings you will have to reconnect all other devices that use wifi. Only took 15 minutes and well worth it to get the Iphone5 working as it should have from the start.

I tried turning off security.  Did not change my wifi speed which is about half of what it should be.  My wifi speed has been about half of my ipad or iphone 4 at multiple locations.

I have WPA2 security turned on and could never get my iPhone 5 to connect to it.  I followed this advice from others in this thread:  from the iPHone  go to Settings>general>reset (right down the bottom)>reset network settings. Then wait 20 minutes and reconnect to the WIFI network again.

This solved my problem immidiately...  WPA2 is still turned on...

I have 3 other iPhone 4s, 2 iPads and 1 iTouch which were always working but not the iPhone 5 until reset the network settings...

Did not help me.  My WPA2 speed continues to be about half of what it should be.  Even when I drop security speed does not improve.  Problem exists at other locations also.

The solution is simple but annoying: you need to enter the DNS server info manually for every Wifi you want to connect to. I use Google's DNS serves 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and works like a charm. The several techs I spoke with at Apple are clearly stumped by this and unfortunately were not able to offer any helpful advice.

My iPhone did not connect successfully to my Wifi the first few days, and unbeknownst to me, used the AT&T LTE network instead. (I checked my AT&T data usage for those few days and sure enough, I found that the iPhone had used such a huge amount that I exceeded my monthly limit in just those 3 days. I was so nervous that I decided to turn off the 'cellular data' feature for fear of incurring a fortune in data usage charges)

I also had trouble connecting to my office Wifi, Starbuck's AT&T hotspot, and Comcast's hotspot at 10th and Mission. The problem went away when I entered Google's DNS server info in all four cases.

I will keep manually changing the DNS servers on my beautiful iPhone 5 until I get a new replacement unit.

You can solve your wifi issues pretty easily.

1) Go into Settings

2)  Go into WiFi

3)  Tap the blue arrow next to the wifi network you prefer to access

4)  You will see various numbers and settings listed.  Take a screen shot to capture that information for future reference if you need to reenter it later by simultaneously pressing the on/off button and the circle button.  The screen shot will save to your Camera Roll.

5) Delete the numbers to the right of DSN.  Enter 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.  One of those should fix both wifi connectivity and download speed.

6)  If this does not work, reenter the original DSN numbers you captured with the screen shot and set up a Genius Bar appointment.

Good luck!  I did this fix and have had no problems with dropped signals and blazing fast speeds.  The 8.8.8.8 works best with my network.

Thanks for suggestion, but did not help.  My speed was same as before.  I have a hunch that there are multiple causes of slow wifi.  There have been multiple suggestions for slow wifi that have worked for a subset of iPhone 5 owners.  None seem to work for all.

I had the same issue, this is what I found... The 5ghz radio in the iphone5 is the problem.  Once I separated the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz signal on my AirPort Extreme, and connect only to the 2.4ghz signal, everything was back to normal.

I am getting speeds similar to my other wifi devices.

Apple needs to come out with either a new firmware or look into the 5ghz radio being defective.

Yes.  Wifi is very weak on IPhone 5.  I have IPAD 2, IPhone 3GS, IPhone 4, and IPhone 5 side by side at my desk.  Wifi is detected on all except IPhone 5 wifi is so weak it will not hold onto the wifi access.  Is this a ploy to make us buy more Data Time from our Service Providers?  I hope they will fix this or it will be the last Apple product for me. Actually I have 30 days to return.....I might switch while I have a chance.

Set your DNS to 8.8.8.8. It will work. There is a bug with wpa2 and changing DNS seems to make it work.

yes i had the same problem i went to apple and they ggave me a new one and i had the same problem again i found out that the case they are making for the new iphone are to tight. i took the case off and it picked up wifi right away so if you have a bumper or a case take it off and try maybe it will work it did for me
