slow wifi on iPhone 5

I am getting slow wifi with iPhone 5. It is half of what I get with my iPad 3 with iOS 6. Are you seeing a similar problem?

I turned off LTE but it did not improve my WIFI speed on my iPhone 5. Should get close to 30 mbps but instead getting less than 15. Not having same problem on my iPad 3 with iOS 6. Getting 29 mbps. Checked out my iPhone 4 with iOS 6. It is getting close to its max of 19 mbps. Seems to me that it is not strictly an iOS problem but may be in iPhone 5 itself.

Possible Fix, Please test.

My family has 3 different iphone 5's and they are all doing the same thing. All other iphones and ipads in the house get the expected results on speedtest.net app. But our iPhone 5's get around half of what the other iOS 6 devices are getting over Wifi on the same servers.

I have fixed the issue on our phones by going into Settings/Wifi/Blue arrow next to your Wifi name/ and typing test into Client ID and renewing lease.

No idea why it helps but I was trying everything to get it working because I was blowing through my LTE not wanting to deal with slow Wifi. Issue completely resolved after doing this. Makes me think it is just a software bug that is only affecting iPhone 5's on ios 6 and will likely be fixed when ios 6.0.1 is released.

Please let me know if this helps in your situations... Could be exclusive to my Wi-Fi setup (I run all Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses).

I was having the same issues. After all my research I kept seeing people posting that iPhone 5 has an issue with WPA2. I went into my time capsule (3rd gen) and disabled security then made it a hidden network. Manually joined and my issue was instantly fixed. I'm now getting just under 16Mbps (15.94) on a 18Mbps package. Prior with WPA2 enabled I was getting 1.5M or under and Pings in the 400-600s

Try going into the settings, general, reset (at the bottom), then reset network settings. Your phone will restart and should hopefully be faster. You will have to re-enter your password to your Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi speed improved greatly after this, however my 4G LTE speeds from AT&T are still very slow and intermittent. Let me know if this helps.

I can confirm that turning off LTE made my speed 10 times faster.

On my Computer I am getting 25-30 MPS..... Same with iPad2 ios6.

On iPhone 5 I get between .37 Mpbs - 2.55 Mps with LTE on.

With LTE off I am getting Between 11-18MPS.

Apple support told me to go and excahge my phone. I am hoping I do not have to do that.

(Wifi is Time Capsuel with WPA2).

Ran WIFI speed tests at public library and Apple store. Brought my new iPad as comparison. In each locale my iPhone 5 WIFI speed was about half of my new iPad (using Speedtest.net). Same ratio as what I saw at home.

Genius at Apple store then tested along with muliptle iPhone 5s. He found 5s were significantly slower than 4Ss. He said he would send email to Apple engineering about findings.

Hopefully, the problem will be fixed with a software upgrade. Just hope it comes within the 30 day window.

It was almost impossible to download iMovie, iPhoto and Garage Band to my iPhone 5 over every wifi networks I tried. I tested all the networks with my 4s and it had no problems with speed but my iPhone 5 took a redicullously long time time download large apps and the downloads seemed to stall. I kept having to tap the app that was downloading twice to reinisiate the download process. I am very disappointed.

I'll be the first to confirm that this issue does exist on the iPhone 4S as well. Perhaps my configuration is different, but I managed to duplicated it.

Try the following:

1. Enable wifi and select the blue arrow next to your network.

2. Select forget this network

3. Go to the iCloud menu within settings

4. Turn off iCloud backup in storage and backup

5. Go to general and then reset

6. Select reset network settings

7. Turn your device back on after it turns off

8. Enable wifi and select your network (inserting your password of course)

9. Verify your speed with speedtest or speakeasy

10. Go to the iCloud menu within settings

11. Turn on iCloud backup with storage and backup

12. Verify your speed once again with speedtest or speakeasy

Good luck!

Ive tried every suggestion in this thread: no-go.

Here is something I've found: on my HOME network, I use an Apple Airport Extreme (no TimeMachine, just the router) from 2010 - with all current updates. My iPhone 5 Screams on the network - every bit as fast as can be hoped-for.

However, I come into work where we use an Airport Express (purchased this year) - and iPhone 5 network speed trickles to practically zero. However, iPad, MacBookAir and everything else is screaming along.

At home, we do NOT have LTE, so when on AT&T network, it reports 4G. However, at work I am within range of the LTE network (Seattle area) and my iPhone reports LTE when off wifi. THIS leads me to suspect it is in fact the AT&T *LTE* network that is causing this. However, I don;t know how to turn off LTE to test it. (And frankly, LTE doesn;t feel any faster than standard 4G to me, by the way.)

How do I turn of LTE? (or do you mean to simply turn off the Phone portion?)

Thanks
