So, I tried uptating my iPod Touch to iOS 6 and it wants me to restore. Will I lose my pictures and contacts (I can sync all the music and apps)? If so, how to I prevent this from happening? Please note that I can't acess any files without the restore.

If you already havea backup ui can restore from that backup. If you restore from backup via iTunes all the apps have to be in the iTunes library in order for the app data have aplace to go. If yu restore from iCloud backup, the app will automartically be downloaded/restored. Both restores will get yu photos and contacts back.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices to cehck for an iTuynes backup.

So after I restore and update, I just select backup from computer and everything should be the same?
