My IMAC G5 will randomly go into sleep mode while I am in the middle of using it. Typically the fan noise increases and than it auto goes into a sleep mode. It also has issues starting. I have to press and hold the power button for it to kick on while also hitting keys on the keyboard to trigger it. Help!?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Hello, have you blown the dustout lately?

Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...

    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12381/temperature-monitor

    iStat Menus...

    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/

    And/or iStat Pro...

    http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/

If you have any temps in the 70°C/160°F range, that's likely it.

I found that the vent was caked with dust.  As soon as I cleaned it out, this problem stopped happening.  It seems like it's a protection against overheating.

Great work, thanks for the report, yes, it's there for protection.
