Does anyone else have a problem with their brand new iphone 5 making a small but annoying rattling sound when lightly shaken?

My iphone is doing the same exact thing! I have no idea what it is but i would like to know, I wonder if it's a defect.
My one does exact the same.
Indeed- I took my phone out for its first full day- nothing crazy to say the least- and when I got home, there was a noticeable rattle from the case as I ended a call and lowered the phone. I then lightly shook the phone because I was hoping I was hearing things, but there it was again. A replacement should be in order as the phone is about a day and a quarter out of the box. Also, the battery life ***** my phone faster than a freshly Drano-d drain. On Monday morning I will be strolling into the Genius Bar. Bummer, man- that's a bummer.
I made an appt at Genius Bar for Monday morning but wonder if I need since I just checked my old 4s and it seems to make that same noise. The noise is at the top part of both phones. Also checked with my older iPhone 4 which didn't seem to have the noise.
My iPhone 5 has the same rattling noise when i tap gently on the top part, i'm worried! I noticed my buttons move slightly as i touch them! Did Anybody notice the same thing?
There are several postings about rattling noises on the 4S and 5.
Consensus seems to be that the issue is camera related but nothing to be concerned about.
I do not notice the issue on my 4S but then it's in a case and stays there, I also don't tend to shake it around for any reason.
Hi there, i think the rattling noise is coming from the top on/off button. thats what i think anyway as this has happened with both my 4 and 5 ? its the only thing i can come across that is slightly loose out the box?
I also have the same issue. It appears it is a build issue with the on/off button. I actually don't think that it is a problem just different from previous versions. It functions properly and I haven't noticed it after using it a few times.
Hi! I got the iPhone 5 yesterday, 32G black, it also has a slight rattle inside. I noticed it within an hour of receiving it. I took the phone to one of our local Apple Store's, a tech opened the phone and said it was the vibration motor. He returned the phone to me and said it needs to be be fixed, but since the 5 is new Apple hasn't released a fix yet. He also ran a full diagnostic test, the phone is functioning properly, but the rattle is annoying. I submitted an online case with Apple Express Lane, suggest others do the same, the more cases they get the faster it will be resolved.
I am also experience this noise, it's very annoying and it's clearly coming from the On/Off button at the top. I bought a case hoping that would isolate the noise but it didn't. My old iphone 4 had a similar noise but I only noticed now when I went to check, but the iphone 5 is much noiser. I hope apple will do something with this issue. I have the 64GB in black.
the rattle is from the camera lenses zoom or focus.. its been happening since the 4. I say learn to live with it as everyone's is like that. on another note, check your colors on your screen. notice the blue is purple and white is cream? yea, that's a BIG problem!!!
My problem with the rattle is wake/sleep button, top right on the phone. If you lightly put your finger on the button and shake there is no rattle. I think the button is a cap on top of a switch soldered to the circuit board. This should be an easy fix for Apple, it is annoying and hope it's fixed soon.
Update: Went to the Apple store today, they replaced the phone because of the sleep/wake button being loose. No more rattle...🙂
Seriously?!
I got the "it's like that, nothing we can do."
What did you say to them?
It took me a couple of trips, have to follow their process.
Schedule an appointment with Genius Bar, you can do it with Apple Store app on iPhone or on line at apple.com , this will get you a case number.
State your case, and prove it's the wake/sleep button causing the rattle.
