Q: 2011 MacBook Pro won't turn on... At all.

My 13 inch MacBook Pro will not turn on at all. It randomly shut off while I was using it and now it won't come back on. The light on the charger is faintly blinking... But it is no longer charging. I tried a different outlet, and a different MacBook charger... Nothing. The screen is completely black and none of buttons or keys are responsive. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but it seems that it shut off not even one second after I connected my iPhone to it via USB. I guess I should include that this was the first time my iPhone was connected to my MacBook since upgrading to ios 6.0. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Okay so in your case it may be different but for me I had a very dim green light with the Mag Safe charger... If you're  trying to let your battery die I'd leave it unplugged... Lol And just be patient.

Okay I actually see a dim light when I turn out all the lights so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

    UPDATE

So I listened to your advice and waited. My macbook was at 100% charge so I played it safe and waited about 70 hours before I tried to plug it in and power it up. My heart raced as I plugged it in but soon after I was flooded with relief. My macbook is alive and well and it's all thanks to you. God bless and happy holidays!

Thank you all so much for posting your problems and the updates!!  I just had the same problem where my MacBook Pro went completely dead when I plugged in my iPhone 5 into USB !  I was freaking out!  You all have calmed my nerves!!  I'll wait for battery to die ( of course it was at 100% too) and keep fingers crossed!!  Ciao!

I've just had this happen to me while using my MBP (mid 2010). I was surfing the net with my ipad3 charging and my backup drive connected then suddenly every thing shut down. Tried all the reset options, but nothing. Having read all the comments in this thread it looks like I need the battery to discharge before any may happen, just my luck that it was fully charged. I'll post what happens later, just hope I can get it back to life as I am supposed to help a friend download some 2000 photos later this week.

I used a 3rd party usb cord and my macbook black out 3 days ago. Today I used a 00mm screwdriver to take off bottom of laptop in an attempt to remove battery. I didn't have to tho, I just unplugged the battery from the board and waited a few minutes, reassembled the bottom and plugged it in and it worked! Saves me a trip to the genius bar. Hope this helps someone!

Oh what a great idea sheenbean523!   I was contemplating removing the back and taking out the battery but was afraid I'd screw something up!   Yep, mine did come back on but it was a LONG 4 days later.   It seemed like an etermity.  To make it worse, I was sick in bed so I was dying for my laptop!   Oh well, all is good now!!   Thanks for the tip on speeding up the time to fix if this happens again!

I plugged my iphone 5 into my macbook using the old wide charging cable(4S, 4, etc) coupled with the 5 series adapter that I purchased from apple. As soon as I plugged in my phone my macbook shutdown and would not turn back on. The light on my macbook charger was not lighting up. Thanks to all of the previous post's I was able to get my macbook running again. The way I did it may not be the best way or safest, but it worked. I opened up my macbook making sure not to lose any screws and I disconnected the battery. Then I plugged in the charger with the battery still disconnected. Although my screen was closed and my macbook was upside down it powered up. I then re-connected the battery to my macbook, closed it up and it has been working well so far. I am not going to use that combo of cable and adapter again. I attempted to fix my macbook this way because my battery died when it was fully charged and I read in an earlier post that it could take up to 30-40 hours for the battery to drain. I needed to use my macbook so, I tried this method and luckily it worked.

For anyone this happens to, if you want to fix it just take off the bottom and remove the small plug connecting the battery to the motherboard. You don't even have to take the battery out. Just remove that little plug and plug it back in and you it should be running just fine!

This issue caused me a near heart attack in early January when my Macbook refused to power up and I had a client presentation the next day. I took it into Apple and they tried resetting the SMC, with no joy. They suggested buying a RMBP then returning it under the cooling off period when I ghot my late 2011 MBP fixed! I declined that and took it home. Then as a last ditch, I took the back off to see if there was anything obvious I could do. I unplugged the battery connector, then replugged it (carefully!) and the fans started up immediately.

Obviously I was elated, but this is a major problem as it has just happened again this morning. I was charging my iPhone 5 via a third party cable on the train with the MBP powered down. Suddenly the phone stopped charging and the MBP wouldn't turn on, so I assumed it was a battery dead issue.I'm really hoping that this is the same problem as last time, but it is annoying to say the least as I can't use my MBP today at work (no screwdrivers). Hopefully the battery dies during the day fairly soon.

This just happened to me. I had a defective micro USB cable that shorted out. I used the cable to connect my phone to my Macbook Pro. This caused my laptop to shut down and not turn back on. If you have a screwdriver to open the back then you do not need to remove the battery. All you need to do is unplug the battery cable (no need to pull out the battery). After doing this my Macbook Pro was up and running immediately. What a scare this was! I am happy it is working again.

    Happened to me today.

My MBP went black after I disconnected my iPhone 5S from the USB port. I googled the problem from my iphone and found this thread. Unplugging the battery worked perfectly. Can't thank everyone enough!
