use your apple id account in the old phone.(settings - iCloud)

make a backup of contacts in iCloud. by turning on contacts (settings - iCloud)

make an iternet connection, open contacts and hit the sync sign in the top left of the contacts page.

wait until contacts sync.

do these steps in the new iPhone.

but if your iPhone 4 is lower than iOS 5 there is another solution.

connect the old phone to the iTunes, sync contacts with your mail contacts,......

The best way is to use iTunes or iCloud. Follow these steps to back up your previous device and then restore the backup to your newly purchased device. Your saved messages, email accounts, photos, notes, and other personal settings will be transferred to your new device.

If you want to transfer contacts only, this iphone 4 contacts to iphone 4S transfer tutorial may help

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link

Hi,

I was looking for the same answer and I didnt wanted to sync because it keeps messing up my new iphone.

So while googleling I found this video: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4338312?start=0&tstart=0

It is an app called my contacts backup, I found it on itunes store by typing my contacts, it was the first bluish logo, it is a free app, I opened the app, clicked backup, send the bacup file as an email to myself and opened it on my new iphone that was it.

I think this is the easiest and simplest way, this is only for moving contacts though. Hope this helps.

Backup your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud. And then set up your iPhone, as a new device, during the process, you can either connect it to iTunes to restore it with the iPhone backup file or restore iPhone iCloud backup file to it(on iPhone 6 Plus, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings > set up as a new device > restore from iCloud backup > choose iCloud backup file to restore). this way takes a long time for you to finish the whole process. If you want to make it quickly, try option 2. Download iPhone Transfer on your computer. Connect with old iPhone and new iPhone with your computer via a USB cable. Check contacts, click transfer to move contacts from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s.
