iCloud COntrol Panel 2.0: now unable to send emails from outlook

I have upgraded to iCloud 2.0 control panel. Anw from now, I cannot anymore send any email from my Outlook 2010 (WIn 7 64 bits): when I click on "send" on a fresh message, the message window closes, but in the "outbox" the message icon appears open. And will never leave the outbox.

If I deselect the iCloud Outlook Add-in, then sending an email works fine again , as it did with the previous version of iCloud.

So I must make a choice:

  • either using Outlook for email with no iCLoud sync,
  • or syncing contacts and calendar in Outlook, but no emails capability!! 😟

Did anyone encounter the same problem?

Same problem. I am using Outlook 2007 (32 bit), running on Win 7 x64. After upgrading from iCloud Control Panel 1.x to 2.0, I cannot send mail. There is a partial workaround - leave a dummy item in the outbox, then be sure not to "touch" any newly-created outgoing item (even a single-click with a mouse) otherwise it will be marked as open and will not be sent. You can tell whether it will go - if it is in italics in the outbox, then it will go on the next send-receive. If it is not in italics, then it will also have "None" in the sent-time column, and it will not go.

Disappointing that Apple didn't test this properly. Also I preferred the old system when I could choose whether to "iCloud" my contacts and calendars separately - I prefer to use Google Calendar Sync for calendars, because it actually syncs the default calendar in Outlook rather than loading a new "remote" calender (as iCloud calendar does). But iCloud Control Panel 1.0 certainly had bugs - I coudln't get contact changes on iCloud to be reflected in Outlook - i.e. it was 1-way, not 2-way. So downgrading isn't really an option.

Hi

I have the same issue. I have actually disabled the **** thing. I only use iCloud for Notes and IE favourites BTW

One workaround however is:

- to drag the email from the outbox back to the inbox

- open the inbox

- edit the email that will not send

- Send it

- Press F9 to send it (unless you have auto send on)

Alternatively:

- Write the email

- Send it

i.e. never go near the outbox

All a pain really

Yikes - Hours of frustration later I find 2.0 was not even tested properly and fails miserably. What gives with an Apple update tech that would not check the viability of what they respresent to be an improvement?

As found on here - I restored my pc to an earlier date and reinstalled the old version which I had fortunately saved and it now works again.

Thanks guys.

I too had this problem when I recently upgraded to iCloud. Some emails would send, others would not so I was really confused.

Tony's answer solved my problem. Thanks! Which I am repeating with a few notes:

  1. Drag the email from the Outbox back to the Inbox
  2. Open the Inbox
  3. Edit the email that will not send. You must change something, add a space, comma, etc or it will not send.
  4. Send it
  5. Press F9 to send it (unless you have auto send on)
  6. Do not open the Outbox to see if it is sent during the send receive or while Outlook is waiting for the send/receive schedule.

Steps 3 and 6 are the most important. I was typically going to my outbox to see if it had left. My send/receive is set to every 5 minutes (incase I have second thoughts on the email). Just looking at the Outbox will cause it not to send. I was trying to resend it without changes and it would still sit there showing as "none". Thus step 3 is needed.

Apple please fix!!

I definitely advise anyone using Outlook to go back to the version 1 of iCloud control panel (ICC). While I didn't have the mail problem (I use Yahoo with POP), boy did it hose up my Outlook calendaring. Issues you should be aware of with version 2.0 and Outlook (I'm using 2010)

  1. While version 2 of ICC fixed the annoying warning message about having a reminder, I found that it DISABLED all of my reminders on existing events. Even turning the reminder back on wouldn't cause Outlook to fire off a event reminder. The only fix was to create new events. And if you change that event in Outlook, the reminder, even if updated, won't fire. I will note the reminders worked fine on the iPhone despited the Outlook problems. Version 1 of ICC preserves reminders just fine in Outlook.
  2. Someone in Apple decided that since the iPhone and iCloud don't support rich text (RTF) in their calendar note field that they should then disabled it in Outlook. So they created a NEW outlook calendar form that does just this. That's annoying since ICC V1 simply stripped out the formatting. The new Outlook cal form apple created won't even let you hit escape to get out of it. You have to click the "x".
  3. With ICC v 2, if you blank out a Outlook event date, it will revert to the Year 2000 (or worse, I had one got to the 1600's). The correct behavior is to revert to the current date or later, which ICC V1 does.
  4. After upgrade to ICC v2, my iPhone stopped downloading from the iCloud. Apple support really tried to figure this out and we did get it working by deleting iCloud from the phone. However, it kept re-occurring. Turns out it was a data corruption caused by the ICC v2 upgrade.

My ultimate solution was to uninstall ICC v2, clean out everything from the iCloud and iphone, then retrieve backups of my Outlook cal/tasks/contacts. Once I installed ICC V1, all was well again. ICC v1 does't support photo stream sharing, but it sure works better with Outlook than does v2.

If you need v1, plenty of places on the web have it. I'm not going to post them since I suspect apple will not approve.

This issue happens for any message in any Outbox in any of my Outlook 2010 accounts. It happens with new messages or messages needing a Resend for any reason.

When the iCloud Add-In is active, opening any Outbox will cause the messages to be marked as Open. Outlook will not send Open messages. The visual indicator of Open state is the message being standard font and not italics.

I rely now on iCloud so will just be sure to close Outboxes when sending or before Resending...
