FCP7 to Compressor 4

I seem to have an inconsistency. Sometimes I get my project sent from FCP7 to Compressor 4 and sometimes not. I am clicking on my timeline in

FCP7 and then file-send to. I am not getting my project from FCP7 sent to compressor 4. I just want to know the correct way to do it so it works

every time. Thanks.

That is the correct way. Are you getting ANYTHING there? Is Compressor opening up?

I've been on a kick today to extol the virtues of /sbin/fsck -fy This should help with making sure the application packages are lining up properly.

Restart the mac and hold down Apple-S. When it is done scrolling you should get localhost: root#. Type /sbin/fsck -fy

(note the space) and hit enter. Then when it tells you your volume is OK type reboot and hit enter. Might not help, but it is a good thing to do once a quarter anyway, and won't hurt anything.

I'd try it one more time. Yes, command-s. Hold it down right after the chime and keep it down until you start seeing a black screen with white lettering. It will start and stop scrolling until you see the localhost: But once it starts scrolling, let go.

What sometimes happens is the file system gets wonky and something in the package for FCP doesn't see Compressor. This and repairing permissions (Disk Utility - system drive - repair permissions) should help clean up some stuff that might have gotten corrupted.

BTW - both programs ARE in your Applications folder, yes? Not in some extra 'video app' folder you might have created?

wait, I don't think you're supposed to be able to send from fcp7 to compressor 4. Don't have compressor 4, but that's what I remember reading. Think you have to just open your original media in compressor 4, do your magic and then export back to a quicktime with your fcp sequence settings and then import that quicktime into fcp7.

In addition to being a non-supported workflow, my 2 ¢ is why not use Compressor 3.5 instead? There are very few tricks that C4 can do that C3.5 cannot and in my experience, 3.5 is more stable. And for certain jobs, like encoding files for DVD's, the 3.5 selection of presets make more sense and are easier to work with.
