IPHONE 5 overheating and battery issues

HI ,

I have bought my IPhone 5 64g yesterday and unfortunately I'm thinking of returning it back to apple , because of 2 issues

1- when I'm using the Iphone 5 , I feel the back of the device really gets overheated.

2- the battery life is not as announced , it does not last that much.

I'm really disappointed , if someone knows what's exactly the problem or how to solve it , please say something

Thanks

I have the 64G iPhone 5 as well. I found that when using the 3G function the phone heats up quickly. But if I use wifi there is no problem.

The lower life of the battery would be a product of the overheatin I would think. However, I heard that some people have problems with the phone heating up when charging and that doing a factory reset fixes the issues. I haven't done one yet, but I may have to.

If your phone gets warm it is using the processor very heavily. This usually happens when running games or some app which is very work intensive (turn-by-turn navigation) for long periods. When the phone gets warm, your battery life will be shorter because a lot of battery power is being used.

If you are not running these apps, there is some process which is out of control. First, restart your phone:

Hold down the Sleep/Wake switch on the top of the phone until you see the red arrow on the screen. Swipe the arrow to power down the phone. After the phone is powered off (completely black screen with no spinning icon), please hold down the Sleep/Wake switch again until you see the Apple logo.

If the overheating continues, plug your phone into iTunes and do a Backup and Restore. If that does not solve it, you will need to contact Apple.

Your phone should not get hot with normal use.

Here's how I solved both heating and battery issues.

I originally setup my iPhone via wireless and iCloud restore. After having all the same issues everyone here is complaining about, I decided to restore via iTunes. I read that downloading the ipsw is much more stable. So I backed up via USB cable to iTunes, restored to factory, and then restored from the backup to get my data back. Since then it's been working like a charm.

I didn't use iCloud to set up the phone and instead restored from backup. But i've had the same overheating issues. Mine is a 64GB (Black, if that has any bearing).

I've tried things from reducing screen brightness, to turning location services off (all) and even killing all open apps. It still has the overheating issue

What the heck Apple?

Yeah, i'm having the same issues especially when im charging my phone and its making me extremely concerned and unhappy. Another thing is i'm not happy with the color white but overall my main concern is because of the overheating.

Does anybody know if apple will gladly replace my iphone 5 and hand me a new one and do you think they could make it a black one. And what do i need as far as going to apple and wanting to replace it; will i need to bring my reciept from AT&T?

Anyone?

You don't need anything. Just yuor phone. Go to apple website to take a genius bar appointment (unless you want to go there and wait). When you reach there there will be a guy with a iPad in his hand who will check you in and then explain your problem to the next genius and you should be all set.

Apple doesn't need your purchase receipt or anything, they have all the records.

Yes. Just show up at a Apple Store with your phone. As for your white phone, you're ain't be able to switch unless you bought from them. If not, they will give you the same. When you buy your Apple stuff at Apple store and you have any issue with your device, you can ask for another colour and they ain't just switch decice, they will give you a brand new sealed product.

The heating and fast discharge has been happening to me. I did power cycling, battery recalibration, and multiple restores. Finally it stopped heating as long as I kept the cellular data off. I finally took it in and got a new one and on the drive home everything worked great.

As soon as I restored from a backup, however, the heating began again. So I checked the Settings > General > About > Diag & Usage > Diag & Usage Data (with Automatically send activated). I saw a loooong list of webbookmarksd process crashes, happening sometimes within 30 seconds of each other.

Then I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4333351?start=0&tstart=0

It looks like something's corrupt with Safari and iCloud synching. I'm trying the steps listed in the above thread. I noticed the crashes stopped when I turned off both cellular and wireless data.

TL;DR version: the iPhone is getting hot because it's constantly trying and constantly failing to do something. For me at least, it's Safari iCloud sync.
