No audio for my imac

My imac is less then a year old. Has been working fine. The speaker icon shows up, but is muted. Under system pref, doesnt seem to be audio driver. Can it disapear?

Whats up? Finding audio drivers is impossible....

And when i hit the key board speaker icon it says it is muted. Circle with slash. But not muted.

This can happen occasionally. Usually a SMC reset and a restart cures it. Not sure what particular iMac you have, so:

Resetting the SMU on a G5 iMac:

and on resetting the PMU on a Power Mac G5, G4 and G3 :
