My ipad has not update to the new oSI 6.
I have not been able to do the up date on my ipad it keeps saying my software is up to date @ 5.1.1

There's no IOS 6 for the Original iPad.

Sounds like you have a 1st generation iPad. If so it can not be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1.
If you own the iPad 1, then you cannot use iOS 6 on it.
