I'm not using Mountain Lion. Still on 10.7.4. You can email the PDF to yourself and use the Open In option on the PDF icon in the email. Tap and hold down on the PDF icon and you will bring up the open in option.
i think there is a way to send it to iCloud in Mountain Lion, but I'm not sure how to do it. Try using the file drop down menu and see if the choice is in there.
I tried that but this particular pdf is apparently too large for email to accept. It's only 8 pages but it 8mb
I'm sorry, it isn't 8mb it 38mb...
I assume that you have a PDF reading App on the iPad so you can use file sharing or you can drag the PDF into the books library in iTunes and if you have iBooks on the iPad - then sync the iPad and the PDF should be in iBooks.
This explains how to use file sharing.
