i cant restore and update my ipad 2 to ios 6 it says error (3194) help please

This is also happening to me. Help!! Other forum posts suggest to try restoring 5-6 times. I've done that, but I always get the same error right after iTunes is done extracting the update.

Also, after clicking OK on the error notification dialog, my iPad starts rebooting over and over. I have to do a hard reset (hold home and off button for 15 seconds, and keep holding until the connect to iTunes screen comes up) to get it to stop rebooting. I've tried closing iTunes and reopening. I have the latest version of iTunes (10.7) installed.

I am running Windows 7, btw.

Found something! I read on another post about a potential cause of the 3194 error. If you've ever tried to jailbreak an iOS device, sometimes the instructions tell you to modify your hosts file to point gs.apple.com to another IP address. I had to jailbreak my wife iPhone 3GS about a year ago (to work on T-mobile), and lo and behold, I had a line in my hosts file for gs.apple.com. I commented out that line, and voila! The restore worked!

Check your HOSTS file and make sure you are not blocking gs.apple.com.

Try to launch https://gs.apple.com: It should open the Apple site, and not be redirected to the Cydia server.

if this redirected to cydia server then

copy hosts file from this path

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

paste on desktop. open this in notepad.

add this line in the last .

#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

in some case this line is there without " #" sign. if this line is there then u simply put" # " at the start of this line

save this and copy this file and past into this path.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\

replace with existing . yes.

close and then start the restore process.

now this will work. Insha Allah.
