Q: Iphone 4s iOs 6 Sound issue-

Hi. I've seen several topics regarding this issue yesterday, but since then apple has done maintenance and those posts are nowhere to be seen

I downloaded iOs 6 the day it came out, and had no real issues with my device, but a couple of days after sound problems started. The only sound that comes out my device is 'ringtone' when someone calls me. Occassionally the lock screen sound/keyboard sounds will come back on for a couple of seconds but not much longer. I though maybe I dropped my device or got it wet, but that is not the case.

The 3.5mm jack I use for audio in my car, still provides working sound from my iphone, but the speaker on the phone itself does not. My radio/dock for the phone also plays the music/sounds from the device, and will continue playing them even after removing the phone, but only for a couple of seconds.

So all-in-all I don't think its a hardware issue. My question is, anyone here having a related bug? Any known fixes?

Another interesting fact is that when connected via bluetooth to scala rider fm, for instance, it allows you to transmit music from iTunes to scala itself (which does work) and to DOCK! So being disconnected from bluetooth device the iPhone thinks it is placed in dock!

Thorr44, do you have any pictures to attach, please?

everyone having this issue, where sound will not play (music, notifications) try something. take a small brush, tooth brush etc, and clean the ports where your charger goes in, The phone gets built up with gunk and thinks it's in the cradle or dock and won't play sounds. The reason it comes and goes is because debris can fall away with movement or plugging/unplugging the phone, etc. good luck and i hope this helps some of you ( I had my friend with a 4s do this lastnight, after this problem had been ongoing for a few weeks, and this instantly brought sound back)

I phoned apple today and told them my problem, they have arranged a new phone for me to pick up as it is a hardware fault with the phone? Good luck with yours!

Ok here is my case. Today i had 2 percent of battery life the connected the phone to charger and turn it off while charging then after some hours it started doing this on off sound thing. Tried several fixes from here without restore or reset something but no help, the phone thinks its is on dock station or something else i don't know. Then i decided to connect it to a charger and make a reset while charging - i mean hard reset, then for hours everything is ok probalby this was issue when connected the phone to cahrger and the software was messed up. Its worth trying this helps to me, so far no problems.Today i made a location and privacy reset to just to tell you, but trying hardware reset while charging will help probably - it helps to me !

Try this friends and tel mi if this helps you!

    Cheers!

Actually not a hardware issue...I found another symptom of the problem:  In iTunes  when you are paired you will see a little orange box with an up arrow immediately to to the right of the volume slider. before you undock, tap the orange icon you should get a window that has all the sound source options: in this case iPhone or Car Stereo. if you select the iPhone, you get your sound back (until you pair again) If you undock or turn off the car without pressing the orange button, you have no itunes volume slider, volume control on the phone, or text message sounds.

Looks more like poor interface design on the part of Apple... no suprise there! undocking or unpairing should default the sound controls back to the phone. but it doesnt after iOS6 upgrade FYI They were more than happy to tell me I had to pay $20 to talk to support, but had no intention of rewarding me for resolving thier issue. I'll keep that in mind when my contract expires... Droid anything yes! iPhone never again!

EVERYONE -  "  123mezz said:  Iv had same problem with the sound ringtones ect, Then i noticed a button at the top above the volume up/down i slid it across and all working again, Iphone 4 ios 6."

That solution worked for me!! This stupid little button was pressed down and none of my sounds were working correctly. Try it!

    Everyone...

Same problem as the above, but just to clarify, when I first read mel0's remedy, I thought she was referring to the volume up/down buttons along the side of the phone.  This is NOT the case!

    Instructions as below:

Settings > Sounds > Next to "Vibrate on Ring", slide off, then on again > Repeat for one below which says "Vibrate on Silent" > Repeat again next to the volume slide bar which says "Change with Buttons".

Not sure which of the three above is the actual culprit, but doing all three resolved the issue for me!

    Thanks

If anyone is still having the sound problem I found (at least for my 4s) that turning the "do not disturb" schedule off (in notifications) fixed the issue. Since then I haven't had any problems with the sound (from any app) coming off and on. It isn't showing a connection to some fictitious dock connector anymore either. Hope this helps someone.

Yes! Thank you.  This worked for me.  In my case it was TuneIn Radio app.  When I went into that app and raised the volume within it and closed the app, my message sounds were as loud as original.

If your message sounds are low or not making sound, try going into each app's volume setting and turning it up to 11.

    Thank you!

Upgraded my 4S to 6.0.1. Just knocking my head for 8 hours now. Made many restore, nothing works.

Its Apple's trick to make the older version phones useless and force customers to buy the new version phones. It's not a bug or hardware problem.

I am sure, Apple doing it purposely.
