Q: Iphone 4s iOs 6 Sound issue-

Hi. I've seen several topics regarding this issue yesterday, but since then apple has done maintenance and those posts are nowhere to be seen

I downloaded iOs 6 the day it came out, and had no real issues with my device, but a couple of days after sound problems started. The only sound that comes out my device is 'ringtone' when someone calls me. Occassionally the lock screen sound/keyboard sounds will come back on for a couple of seconds but not much longer. I though maybe I dropped my device or got it wet, but that is not the case.

The 3.5mm jack I use for audio in my car, still provides working sound from my iphone, but the speaker on the phone itself does not. My radio/dock for the phone also plays the music/sounds from the device, and will continue playing them even after removing the phone, but only for a couple of seconds.

So all-in-all I don't think its a hardware issue. My question is, anyone here having a related bug? Any known fixes?

    I'm in the same boat.

    Upgraded to 6.1.2

    killed all sound

no jailbreak, iphone 4s, nothing.. what's weird is this seems different from the "it thinks it is docked" bug

basically that one is easily figurable.. if you plug your iphone into the dock connector.. it plays sound again so you know where the problem is. it thinks it's docked

this one HAS NO SOUND regardless if you plug it to the dock connector or not

the only solution i have found is to jailbreak the phone and delete this file which is the cause of the problem but i am not about to go jailbreak my phone

apple broke my phone with 6.1.2

    FIX IT

no excuses, fix this ******* mess

Same issue. Ringer volume does not work and no speaker sound. Fixed after turning off the auto brightness button. Vaguely remember that after iOS updating the phone went dark and flicked a few times. Hopefully no more problems.

Same issue here , as soon as I updated my phone from the new software update 6.1 which than created problems for my battery life draining at a rather ridiculous rate, than comes another update 6.1.2 that is supposed to fix the issue but just creates an entirely new problem with my phone now not ringing when someone calls, I'm also not able to receive text messages as there is no text tone that plays. This is getting annoying Apple please stop rushing to make the next big hit and focus on the customers that you already have before you lose them.

Same here. I updated my iphone 4 and now it will not work with my dock or play through my speakers. I already have bought an iphone 5 but i wanted to use the very very very expensive iphone 4 as  a permanent device for my stereo. Sort it out please- how can you let down thousands of loyal customers who continue to spend a great deal of money on your products. DONT RIP US OFF- fix the bug so i can have my iphone 4 still usable. As i have said - I have already bought an iphone 5- you are not losing a customer but if you dont fix this I guarantee i am off to Android on the next upgrade.

I'm having problems since the upgrade too. As soon as I put my iPhone 4s on either my Bose docking system or B&W Zeppelin the volume bar disappears in iTunes and the sound doesn't work. Same with Spotify. Most annoying!

I have reset to factory settings, cleaned the phone and the docks - and still no sound!

I'd rather use the assistive technology (I still have sound through my speaker...it's very faint and through my earphones) to adjust the sound and/or mute the phone as opposed to resetting my phone.  I don't want to lose voicemails or anything...I save them for posterity.  I tried the cleaning, etc. before I contacted Apple and got the response I did...that they were working on a fix.  They don't realize what a pain in the butt this is.

This is the second time that an update has caused an issue with an Apple device. First my iPad's sound started having issues - which wasn't as serious, but after my iPhone 4s stopped ringing - I'm now extremely upset. I avoided this update for weeks and totally regret doing it. I hope this is resolved soon. I also reset my phone again (which I now regret because it didn't work) and on top of that, it reset all my wireless settings. Again, not the end of the world, but quite frustrating. Will try a few more things later this week, or resort to visiting an Apple or Verizon store.

After talking to my wonderful sister she found this post on another thread that did it for me! I was reluctant because I've followed so many so called fixes but this actually did it!!

Again I jumped the gun. The sound came back for maybe 15 minutes at the most.

Back to no sound. I'm thinking about either windows or android phones right now.

I too am having this problem and it's very intermittent sometimes it'll last for hours. Other times it will last for just for seconds. Sometimes a reboot will fix it sometimes a sync with  iTunes and sometimes I just have to let it sit overnight I never know. I hope Apple is working on a fix because this is ridiculous is been going on for several months I just never thought it was something anybody else was having problems with

I am new to Apple products, have been a Android user for the past 5 years or so.  I decided to give Apple a try because of some Android software issues and friends recommending the iPhone.  Heard the iPhone was a better product with no issues and always great product. I was happy at first.  I am beginning to regret my move to Apple with this software issue with speakers, notifications, and volume button.  It seems that there are ALOT of people with problems, yet no response from Apple. This problem is not only annoying but also scaring thinking that we were getting a superior product.  I hope Apple will address this and take care of the problems with a fix soon.  Just a surprised and not happy new customer.
