Q: Iphone 4s iOs 6 Sound issue-

Hi. I've seen several topics regarding this issue yesterday, but since then apple has done maintenance and those posts are nowhere to be seen

I downloaded iOs 6 the day it came out, and had no real issues with my device, but a couple of days after sound problems started. The only sound that comes out my device is 'ringtone' when someone calls me. Occassionally the lock screen sound/keyboard sounds will come back on for a couple of seconds but not much longer. I though maybe I dropped my device or got it wet, but that is not the case.

The 3.5mm jack I use for audio in my car, still provides working sound from my iphone, but the speaker on the phone itself does not. My radio/dock for the phone also plays the music/sounds from the device, and will continue playing them even after removing the phone, but only for a couple of seconds.

So all-in-all I don't think its a hardware issue. My question is, anyone here having a related bug? Any known fixes?

I recommend all of you go to your local apple store and you will probably end up with a new phone. I tried everything phone support recommended you. It ended up being a hardware problem.  They replaced 4s for free because there was a bit of corrosion on the dock connector. The new 4s that they gave me is working fine now on IOS 6.

Except it can't be a hardware problem if everything worked fine prior to iOS 6.

Went to Genius bar and they did a "different type of restore" as my Siri stopped working today also, I begged and pleaded for a new out of the box phone and he said if I can't figure it out, I'll give you one, he brought the phone back to me, I tested it and now my keyboard shortcuts were gone , no good, someone went into the back and came out 10 minutes later. My phone is better now especially since I took the plastic cover off the front of the phone no more muting by ear and the screen goes dark in seconds, turns out my restore file in itunes is corrupt. I lost my keyboard shortcuts for a few, but went into icloud settings and toggled off the documents and data button and I have the keyboard shortcuts back. I got both emplyees business cards so I'll ask them tomorrow b/c it worked fine for a good 5 hours, I saw the bumper case for the 4S, sorry but I'm not spending $30 when I paid less for my current phone. On a side note, Apple will beat any price on any item if you show them the ad even online and 2 employees and I were chatting and I asked about the ipad mini, neither of them had "any idea" about it. To which I replied if it's cheaper than the new ipod, some there are going to be some upset customers and they nodded in agreement and said "We have no idea nor have we been told anything about the ipad mini." Hmmmm......

Well I am from India. Updated my 4S to iOS6. Was very happy with the new features and stuff. And then in a weeks time it suddenly stopped its sound output. No ringtone. No message tones. No alarm. Nothing at all. I am facing a lot of difficulties because of this. Never expected this from apple. Anyways, I went to the service Center and they say they will replace my iPhone.

So I guess the only solution is to go and get your iPhone replaced or wait for apple to release a bug free iOS 6 . Something version.

Good for you for getting your phone replaced. At this point, I think everyone with sound issues should go to the Apple store, whatever they did to mine yesterday really helped I am really experiencing ios6 now.

The same thing with my iPhone 4S.

Apple guys, fix it!!! It's too frustrating. Every time my phone goes mute all of a sudden I feel like smashing it. :(

To Julsik, Poor little thing and Mr_eastcoast2k5, I 150% know where you're coming from, I'm on my 2nd iphone 4s in 2 months after 3 weeks of sheer agravation and CURSING the day I downloaded ios6, I FINALLY made an appt at the Genius bar for this past Sunday:

went to Genius bar and they did a "different type of restore" as my Siri stopped working on Sunday also, I begged and pleaded for a new out of the box phone and he said if I can't figure it out, I'll give you one, first thing he did was take the plastic cover I put on the phonescreen myself, no more muting by ear and the screen goes dark, not dim, dark, in seconds while on a call, IDK if this is true but he told me and kind of showed me that some iPhone 4S models come with the screen cover already installed to avoid the sensor issue which I experienced b/c I automatically covered my phone with a screen protector before I took it out of the Fed Ex box. He wanted to take the preinstalled screen cover off to show me, but I said "No thank you" and now that I look closer at the device I can see it. After he did his thing he brought the phone back to me, I tested it and immediately noticed that there was a difference, he also restored my ios6, I now have options that I didn't even know existed, now I LOVE ios6, but my keyboard shortcuts were gone , no good, unacceptable were my words, he sent another employee into the back and she came out 10 minutes later; ALL keyboard shortcuts present even ones from years and 2 iphones ago that I forgot about. My phone is like new now, turns out my restore file in itunes is corrupt. I woud've never thought my restore file woud be corrupt (see my username), didn't even know that existed so the 100 times I performed a restore was just a waste of time. I said what happens if I have to resore? They said come back and your wish for a new phone might just come true. Point of my story is to take your device to the Apple store; even if you're not covered they'll diagnose it for you so you know. Best of luck!

I too have issues with my Iphohne 4 since ugdating to IOS6 - the Text alerts come through intermittently - I dont know whether its because i leave the text thread open before turning the phone off or hitting the home button but it is SOOOOOOOOOO infuriating when i open my messages to find out that someone has replied and has been waiting for me to reply back and consequently sent more messages to me to chase me!!

    SORT IT OUT APPLE!!!

I have a similar problem, except mine is that I don't recieve any sound or vibration whenever I recieve an SMS or iMessage, all the other sounds work fine. The screen lights up and I get a notification, just no sound or vibration.
