Icon overlapping - Why?

Icon overlapping - Why?

In my Mac HD folder some of the icons overlap. This started after one of the past updates. I can move them around but it will not stay organized after a restart. I can select all of them and pick the menu command to arrange them but it does not last.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to permanently fix this overlapping?

G-5 , 2.3, Mac OS X (10.4.6)

In the "View" menu, select "Arrange..", then "By Name".

Use column view. It's the real deal. And if you use the sidebar properly, in comjunction, there is no reason for anything else. You'll be used to it in a day, or two.

I really though the preference toss was a good idea.

I did it twice but they are still messed up. Anyone have a new idea.

This started after an update and whenever I restart it goes back to overlapping no matter how I arrranged them.

still stuck on that Icon View, are we? I warned you to go to column view. lol.

OK, let's try a couple things. Go to versiontracker.com, and get something called like Cocktail, or this <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10478>. What you will be doing is removing all the DS_Store files. Clean out the entire hard drive. Restart. Does this help?

If not, create a new Account in your System Preferences/Accounts Pane. Switch to it, and see if the same thing happens.

I will bring this to the front one more time.

I am still having the problem. I don't like lists under the View menu and thus have stayed with the icons.

Any Ideas Please.

Thank you for the suggestion but....

Whenever I restart the computer it goes right back to the overlapping mess. Some icons have three on top of each other.

Any other sugggestions are welcome.

Probably the Finder preference. (User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist). Toss that. Restart.
