I tried to update my iphone 4 to IOS 6, when asking me to connect to itunes it did not respond and now i am left with a black screen & Apple icon. It is not updating. Help

Further to my above. I have the latest version of itunes installed.
Place the device in DFU mode (google it) then restore.
Thanks for your speedy response. Tried DFU, atleast iTunes can see device now, installed iOS 6 and going through restore phone firmware process and it failed at the last minute! do you have any more tips?
Diesel vdub, I tried the DFU mode again and tried to restore the phone a couple more times. Software finally installed an phone now back to normal. Thank you very much. Take care.
