using proxy, optimized and native media

Hi guys, I´m editing a project shoot with Canon DSLRs.

What´s the point of creating both proxy and optimized media? If I use proxy for editing and playback (Which should be faster for playback and takes much less hard disk storage), and when I´m ready to export I use the native media instead; then why the optimized media is needed?. It takes a lot of time and storage to have both the proxy and the optimized.

Is there any difference between the final exports of native and optimized media?

If you're going to color correct or do effects you'll want to do it on optimized media not on proxy media. If you're doing little enhancement work there is no benefit in optimizing. I don't think there's a lot of benefit of using proxy files with DSLR footage, unless you're doing multicam.
