The airline app must be Passbook enabled. So far, American, United, and Lufthansa are. Maybe there are more out there. Once your boarding pass shows up on the airline app you can choose to send it to Passbook and it should show up there. You also have to have iCloud turned on.

Unless there is something I'm missing or not aware of, the only reason to have PassBook turned on with an iCloud account on an iOS device that is using PassBook is for syncing the PassBook over the air with another iOS device accessing the same iCloud account.

Yes..true. Yet I was assuming that's how the ticket "got" from the app in your device to Passbook. I believe iCloud HAS to be turned on if you receive a pass on an email and then want to "send" it from device to Passbook. Perhaps someone here can confirm.

Not sure why iCloud must be on for a rewards card or boarding pass to be transferred from an app to PassBook. Not everyone has an iCloud account but if someone does, that would mean a boarding pass must be sent to the iCloud email address - no other email address. That wouldn't work so well.

Seems that you MUST be signed in to iCloud.

Add a pass to Passbook: Tap Add to Passbook on a merchant’s website or in a confirmation email. You can also add a pass from a Passbook-enabled app.

You must be signed in to your iCloud account to add passes to Passbook.
