Q: How do I make IOS 6 keep wifi on when iPod is sleeping?

Hi, I've been very annoyed by IOS 6 disconnecting from the wifi after a few minutes in sleep mode. I need my iPod to stay connected at all times so I can receive information and get a ringer notification the moment I get anything (examples are e-mail, texts from texting apps, skype calls, etc.). I really dont like having to keep checking my iPod and reconnecting every now and then just to see if I got something. I am considering changing back to IOS 5 just to get my iPod to stay connected 24/7 but I don't want to do that unless I know that there is no hope for me in IOS 6.

You obviously have something configured incorrectly.  My iPod and my iPhone recieve notifications 24/7.

Hi. I have the same problem though it is not everytime. My iphone 4s with ios 6 sometimes disconnected to the wifi while in sleep mode. I noticed that when I'm just about to unlock it. When I unlock it connects again.

It often happens especially if I leave it into sleep. When I locked it, it most likely didn't happen.

Apple please solve this! Its annoying. Thanks.

If your device is connected to external power, it should keep the wifi on when it goes into sleep mode.  If you have the external power disconnected, then it will turn the wifi radio off when it goes to sleep to conserve battery.

Are you sure that this is intentional? Because I don't think ios 5 is like this. The thing is my cellular reception in my house barely get signal therefore not connected to wifi really ***** the battery out of my phone.

And how bout ipod or ipad without cellular? If it is intentional at least apple should let us choose whether to stay on wifi while standby mode or not.

I am having the same problem, my iPod touch 4gen disconnects from the wifi connection as soon as it goes to sleep or I push the buttom to make it go to sleep. Because it disconnects itself from WiFi, I stop receiving pushed email, imessages, and any alerts from other apps. This didn't happen with iOS 5.

Any news as if this is an iOS bug that will be fix?

Any way to force iOS6 to not disconnect WiFi when in sleep mode?

Your help is appreciated (remember this question applies for ipod touch 4th gen ->not iphones)

    Thanks

Dear cliftonfromrichmond, I would immediately eliminate the possibility that I have something configured incorrectly because I am a computer tech and the network administrator and have not had this problem with any iOS devices until iOS 6 came out. So the chances of me having something misconfigured is a 0% chance.

I am having the same issue.

When my iPad and iPhone were on iOS5 they didn't disconnect from the WiFi ever.

Now that I've upgraded to iOS6 my iPad disconnects from WiFi after being locked for a minute or so. This is happening when unplugged or plugged into mains. My iPhone still never disconnects despite being on iOS6 which makes me think it's a bug and no intentional.

It is annoying and makes the iPad useless effectively as I get no notifications or emails when it's locked, I have to turn it on and check, rediculous.

Has anyone found a solution and has Apple responded at all to the issue?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

May I know whether you upgrade your ipad and iphone via OTA (over the air) or connect to itunes?

If your iphone didn't have the same problem then maybe you upgrade it differently? Cause all my friends upgraded it via OTA anf they are having the same problem.

    Thanks

    Hello Naturals006

I upgraded both iPad and iPhone to iOS 6 using iTunes and not OTA

    Thanks,

    Ryan

I can confirm resetting the Network Settings still hasn't sorted the problem for me.

Also, I updated through iTunes and not OTA.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

This happens to me too.  I am using an iPod Touch 4G.  Prior to upgrading to iOS6, I had no such problem that as soon as the iPod wakes up, it will be reconnected.  However right now, I need to reconnect every time when I wake up the device, which makes it difficult to keep in touch with friends via iMessage.

I must add that this only occurs when I am in the Office but it works fine at home.  I am pretty sure the WiFi system we use at work is from Cisco while at home, we have AT&T U-verse.  I have seen similar problems before with my Mac Book Pro a few years back and there was a well known issue of connecting to Cisco's wifi system.  Later Mac OS update eventually fixed it.  Apparently the same bug finds its way back to iOS6.

    Update:

As soon as I finished typing the message above, I disconnected from the network entirely (using the "Forget") and then then reset the iPod-touch (Power down and up) and then re-joined the network (by typing user name and password fresh).  This has solved my problem for now.

I have tried the same multiple times and this has not fixed the problem for me (iPhone 5, iPad 2-wifi only). This is becoming very frustrating as wifi is the primary way I message my wife on her iPad2 and on my iPhone 5. Please bring back whatever it was about the previous iOS's that kept the devices connected to wifi while sleeping!
