How do I make IOS 6 keep wifi on when iPod is sleeping?

Hi, I've been very annoyed by IOS 6 disconnecting from the wifi after a few minutes in sleep mode. I need my iPod to stay connected at all times so I can receive information and get a ringer notification the moment I get anything (examples are e-mail, texts from texting apps, skype calls, etc.). I really dont like having to keep checking my iPod and reconnecting every now and then just to see if I got something. I am considering changing back to IOS 5 just to get my iPod to stay connected 24/7 but I don't want to do that unless I know that there is no hope for me in IOS 6.

This thread is full of misinformation and hot air. IOS 6 does not "disconnect" WiFi when the device sleeps. If your WiFi router is functioning correctly you will receive notifications while your device is asleep. I get these notifications consistently with iOS 6 and iOS 6.0.1 while my iPad 4, iPad 3, iPod Touch and iPhone 5 sleep.

This thread was answered properly in the very first response by cliftonfromrichmond which stated:

"You obviously have something configured incorrectly. My iPod and my iPhone recieve notifications 24/7."

I would amend that to say that there is probably something amiss in your WiFi router firmware if you are not receiving notifications which you have enabled.

So it's a coincidence that me, my gf, others locally, and the folks reporting in this forum and other venues, all started experiencing this problem at or soon after we all updated to iOS6x and that we should all be investigating the firmware in our routers? Really? Let's say you are right in that all our routers suddenly started having... let's say a compatibility issue, with iOS6 when it was installed in our gadgets.... wouldn't that really mean that iOS6 has compatibility issues with existing common hardware (or the firmware operating it)? So if what you say is true, does that mean we need to all get our ISP's or router makers to update firmware or system software? Again... iOS6 is deployed... problems ensue, therefore the problems are the problems of everything non-apple. That has such a lovely Windows sensibility to it.

Very few of those who are having no problems with iOS 6 and sleep notifications will even read this thread let alone post in it. Therefore, being "in the majority" in this thread is meaningless. This isn't a popularity contest. The vast majority of iOS 6 users are NOT having this problem. Thus, if you are having a problem, to solve it requires looking at your network to see what is amiss. Posting in this thread and/or waiting for a "fix" from Apple will get you exactly nowhere.

JimHdk may be right in that there is a compatibility issues with routers or the ISP... but, if you deploy a new OS, it shouldn't render your ISP or legions of routers out of date when it comes to connectivity or push technology. That would mean, IMO, that the OS is buggy or that Apple took certain things for granted that they should not have (such as everyone is using a brand new router and that all ISPs are using the latest versions of routers, hardware, firmware, software, etc). It certainly is strange that this only affects some people and I wouldn't be surprised to see people with this problem, like me, same brand/model routers/modems. BUT, it should not be the responsibility of the Apple gadget owner to have to buy a new router/modem or upgrade it's firmware everytime Apple deploys a new iOS.

Unfortunately, it is your responsibility to update your router's firmware if there is a bug in it which has been exposed by iOS 6. Of course, this is only possible if there is a router firmware update which fixes the problem. Since almost all users of iOS 6 aren't having this problem I would guess that the bug causing it is in some people's routers. If Apple's implementation of the IEEE WiFi standard 802.11 is correct then Apple isn't likely to make any changes to work around a router bug.

Has anybody downloaded iOS 6.0.2?

It is supposed to fix wifi issues... But for some reason when I go to the software update section, it says my software(6.0.1) is up to date... I read that people are having problems with the OTA update...but that's different from me... Is it possible that the iPod touch 4th gen is not being supported anymore???

Anyways, if somebody does have iOS 6.0.2, was our wifi issue solved?
