Mar 31, 2014 8:29 AM in response to linksithby DonCornelius,Another "me too" post. The only time this impacts me is when I'm at work, connecting to a Cisco wi-fi router. I often need a VPN connection running, which of course gets killed when the iPad goes to sleep and wi-fi drops. If it were not for the pranksters that sit near me, I'd keep my screen unlocked when I'm not at my desk. I would love to try the trick of disabling the lock screen passcode, but that disables a settings profile I allowed work to install on my iPad, not to mention problems from the previously mentioned pranksters. The only way I don't lose my VPN connection is to not let the iPad sleep, or lug my laptop to work and avoid the whole mess.
I have/had this issue on iOS 6 & 7 on iPad 3 and iPad Air.

Mar 31, 2014 10:18 AM in response to DonCorneliusby rhferg,I have the same problem and have already posted about it. I used to have an iPad mini, but I now have an iPhone 5S, which raises new difficulties.
My previous solution was to start a recording, which kept the wifi open even when the device was locked. However, that's no good on an iPhone, as any call will interrupt the recording, so wifi switches off as soon as the phone autolocks after you finish the call.
I now use an internet radio app instead, leaving the phone tuned to a station with the sound turned down. It works, but the phone does get hot and it eats up the battery and perhaps uses a lot of data as the staion is streaming for hours on end. Because I am at work, I can keep the phone charged up and I don't care about the data.
So it's better than nothing, but not satisfactory.
On the plus side, the battery performance of the phone is excellent, particularly overnight. I realise that that is a benefit of shutting off the wifi when it is asleep. Apple should simply give the user the option of overriding that setting when necessary.

Oct 13, 2014 5:33 PM in response to linksithby brideymc,I do not know if this will be applicable for everyone's situation, but here is a solution that worked for me. After having Comcast internet service (Cisco hardware) installed yesterday, my iPad continued to drop its connection while in sleep mode. My new network offers simultaneous dual‑band 802.11n Wi‑Fi, to which I was connected to the 2.4 GHz band. Once I switched to the 5 GHz, no more lost connection. Again, for those who are experiencing this problem in a work setting, it is unlikely the answer to your problem. But for those having an issue with their personal network, I hope this works for you as easily as it did for me.
