Q: How do I make IOS 6 keep wifi on when iPod is sleeping?

I really hope there is going to be a fix for this very very soon! This most definitely can't be a feature. It is clearly a bug.

For example, my network operator does not allow Facetime via cellular (and even if, I would not use cellular, as I have a contract with limited volume). So as Wifi shuts down after locking the iPhone, I can't receive Facetime calls, unless I know that someone is planning to call me.

Has someone found solution to the problem?

My wifi is also disconnecting when it goes to sleep, with the iPad I was lucky and took it to the Apple Store in Tokyo and the guy just gave me a new one in exchange, and it had iOS 5.1.1 installed, it hasn't disconnected at any time, sleep or not, I once again get WiFi notifications.

My iPhone 4s is still stuck on iOS 6.0.1 and disconnects when sleep mode kicks in, but I have found a work round for now,:

Go to your settings, WiFi, choose your network, now leave it on that page, turn down the screen brightness to reduce battery consumption and set autolock to never, you will get your notifications as normal.

You will notice that just after " Choose a Network " there is a signal looking for a network every 10 seconds or so, that will keep you connected to wifi, connect to power cord if you worry about Battery.

Or, connect to an internet radio app and turn the sound down, you will still get WiFi notifications, as the radio app stays connected when the iPhone is in sleep mode, could even try the pause button on the app, its Trial and error.

Not perfect workrounds, and I cannot guarantee they will work 100% of the time, but they both work for me, I am going to sell my iPhone 4s with iOS 6 and try to buy another with iOS 5.1.1 if I can.

Apple are really bugging me, they upgrade a well working iOS 5.1.1 and replace it with something that does not work properly, then they tell us we cannot go back to what works, we have to stick with the new iOS which doesn't work.

Still no updates from APPLE. It is so sad. I/m going to erase all my data from my iPod Touch 4g and not update to iOS6. Since I'm using my iPod Touch all the time and I need it to be connected to Wi-Fi even at nighttime, iOS6 is piece of.... for me now. When they'll fix it I'll update.

My iPhone 4 is on iOS6 and i will keep it there to check updates.

my wifi has been doing this as well...on and off...you can tell when its working correctly as the wifi bars pop up almost instantly when you are in the lock screen...and when its not (and not sending me notifications while in airplane mode) the wifi bars take 3-4 seconds before they come on in the lock screen...cmon apple

I'm not willing to install any tunneling or VPNs to get this basic feature working.

It's pretty infuriating.

The odd part is, i've had this phone for about a week and it never did this for the past few days. Only today it started doing it, for no discernable reason. It is infuriating.

I got iPhone 4 two days ago and had the same problem. A recent solution was to select other as a network option. I did and it worked fine. Later I went back in and selected a regular found network and now it continues to stay connected. But now I notice that when asleep it stays connected and therefore drains battery. I would be happy if it would automatically connect to network when awake and disconnect when asleep. Btw when I talked to apple they acted like they didn't have a clue about this problem. And while I was on hold I found this forum on apple's site clearly about this problem. There solution was to return phone to place of purchase to get another one. Great solution!

In your case you can just turn off WiFi if you don't want persistent WiFi.

It's the people who do need a persistent WiFi connection, these people are  who we are seeking a solutioon for in this thread.

mike08b came up with the solution that has fixed the disconnection problem for me, thanks Mike.

I installed the app and when I opened it a screen came up informing my network will not support their app to put my email address in the box and hit send. Then it says thank you! We hope to be in touch soon.  No option for anything else.  iPod touch 5g with update installed running on my wifi AyrMesh.  Now what? ;(

hold power & home button minimum of 20 seconds,

after that remove both and turn on iPhone and then remove passcode lock,

mine is working after doing this,

im using Black iPhone 5 16 giga byte

I'm returning my iPad 4, if I don't find a workaround. Apple is very slow to respond to their product issues. That keeps me away from Apple's other products.
