I just upgraded my iPhone 4 to the new iPhone 5. The problem is, I can't get the new phone to back up to iCloud becasue the old one still has a backup on there that's taking up most of the storage space. I haven't been able to delete the old one becasue it says it's still in use. I wiped my old phone. I also tried to delete it from the settings in my Macbook Pro and same issue. Anyone have this problem?

Try deleting from within the iPhone settings...
Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Select the back up up wan to delete... then on the next screen hit delete.
I tried that first and it wouldn't let me.
Nevermind. After about 2 days it allowed me to delete it. I think I saw on some other web pages it makes you wait at least 48 hours before you can delete an old backup. Hope that helps anyone else with the same issue.
Thanks for the post. I'm having this same issue so I'll try deleting the old backup again in two days!

I have same issue but it says it will delete all information from my icloud. It asks if I want to turn off backup and delete all backup data for "my old phone" from Icloud. Dont want all information deleted since I have been unable to back up new phone. Please help
