So far my daughter has not been able to redeem allowance. Whats wrong?

There has not been anything showing up on my daughters iTunes account for her monthly allowance. I logged onto her iTunes account and go to the redeem page but all that is there is a field to enter a code into. I dont have a code. Was I supposed to get one when I set up the allowance? 😠
