im trying to upgrade my itunes and it just wont work

Do you get an error message if you try to update iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)
there is no error message, itunes has the steps to download, i follow them and itunes says the download is complete. I shutdown and reboot incase it needs to restart to take effect but nothing. i want to sync my iphone, and see if there are any updates, but the error message i get is "Neil's iphone can not be used because it requires itunes version 10.6.3 or later, go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version."

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?
i have been trying to download the newest itunes to run my iphone, and it wont work help
