Aperture cannot be opened because of a problem.

Aperture 3.4 was working fine prior to my upgrade to Mountain Lion last night. My Aperture Library is stored on an external HD - this HD was ejected prior to running the Mountain Lion upgrade (as recommended). Here is what I receive when I try to open Aperture today (everything else associated with the computer and external HD is working perfectly: [I do not know how to interprete the "Dylad Error Message" herein]

Your Aperture installation is incomplete. The PrintServices.framework is missing. YOu need to remove Aperture and reinstall an earlier version, then upgrade from there.

The installer has a problem, that can cause missing frameworks, when installing on top of certain Aperture versions. See this support article on how reinstall.

Léonie - thanks for the help, it makes sense. I went to the App Store to redownload Aperture for a reinstall, but it appears that I purchased Aperture originally in 2010 as a v1/v2 option and it is not listed as an option for download (only purchases from 2011 onward are listed). I tried to then go the 3.1 trial but I cannot locate a serial number. It looks like the only option now is to repurchase Aperture via the App Store? Thanks.

Sep 23, 2012 11:23 PM in response to napier123

You should not need the serial number when reinstalling on the same machine.

After installing the trial don't even try to launch it - it cannot open your Aperture libray anyway, since it is version 3.1 and your library probably a more current version. Had straight for "Apple menu -Software" update or download the

Aperture 3.4 update

from the Support page.

You should not need to enter your serial number, since your current serial number is stored in your user library.

Sep 24, 2012 6:25 AM in response to léonie

It is asking for the serial number and I do not have the email that Apple sent back in 2009 when the original Aperture activation packet was forwarded (and even if I did have it, it appears that it will not work with the App Store or Trial versions since it was purchased back in 2009, sort of a "planned obsolescence" by Apple).

I viewed several similar posts in the forum from back in April, 2012 and there were only two resolutions to this issue - either purchase the product again (and hope for a credit when the Aperture 4 product comes out) or use a torrent version of Aperture until the new version comes out.

Thank you for all your help though. Much appreciated!
