Voicemail Unavailable Could not authorize access."

When setting up my Voicemail on my new Verizon iPhone 5 I got this error.

"voicemail unavailable could not authorize access."

The fix was to turn off my phone, have Verizon reset my VM, turn the phone on, then call into the VM from the phone using *86 and use the Verizon setup menu. Once this was done I kill the phone app on my iPhone and I could then get into VM. Hope this helps.

I had this problem with my AT&T phone. If I tried to change the voicemail password on my phone, I got this error and no voicemails would show up in my visual voicemail and I couldn't set the custom greeting. So I logged into the AT&T web site and I requested a reset the voicemail password. After this was done, it set the voicemail to a new temporary password and then the voicemail started showing up, so that seemed to make it work.
