Same problem here in southern Delaware. iPhone 5 will just sporadically go over to edge and stay there. I called AT&T and they told me I am in a strong 4G area and that I need to reboot my iPhone to take care of the problem. Rebooting got it back on 4G…seems like we have an iOS 6 or hardware problem on our hands here. Constant rebooting is not a long-term solution!

After having my phone do this on a daily basis, I stopped by the local AT&T store the other day. The rep. there told me that several iPhone 5 users are showing up with this problem and that they thought it may be a software problem with the phone or the sim card was bad. He installed a new sim card for me, so I'll see if that makes any difference.

Just hard reboot your phone. Thats what I did and BAM!! All is good again ...it even fixed some wifi and speed issues I was having.

For you guys who are not sure what a hard reset is.

First quit all your apps running in the background>Hold the sleep and home button at the same time until your phone turns off> Turn your phone on and wait to see if it happens again.

This is most probably underlying issues with iOS 6 firmware being so buggy.

So this is probably a temporary fix until Apple updates iOS 6.

I noticed the same issue on both my iPhone 5 and iPad 4. Issue is temporarily fixed by turning airplane mode on and off on either device. A hard reboot temporarily fixes the problem but it recurs. It happens when I'm on an area with poor signal inside a building. The problem is that it won't go back to "4G" once I'm outside and in an area of strong 4G coverage.

My partner has an iPhone 4S and has not experienced this problem.

Seems to be limited to LTE devices.
