Q: My 5th generation iPI  It will not reset and is not acknowledged on iTunes when connected to the computer.  What do I do?

My 5th Generation iPod stopped playing abruptly.  It had a full charge.  It will not reset.  It is not acknowledged on iTunes when plugged into the computer via USB cable.  It will not charge on the a/c outlet with the original charger cable.  The lock setting is not engaged.  It is essentially DEAD.  What do I do?

iPod classic, iOS 5.1.1

I assume knowing shows on the display at all? How long have you left it to charge?  It can take up to 30 minutes for the iPod to show any signs of life and even then it sometimes still requires a hard reset of the iPod to get it to boot up.

By a reset, I assume you pressed and held both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear?
