After downloading the new printer driver, go to Applications>System Preferences>Print & Scan>and with the printer connected to your Mac. on the left side of the Print & Scan window Press the "Plus" symbol at the bottom of the left hand column. That should show you the Printer attached to your Mac now.
Hope this helps 🙂
no, this stiil udid not show the printer in my list. I think I have failed to install the driver properly, but if i go back to downloads and go through the same process again, it doesn't make any difference.
Thanks for trying anyway.
What exactly is the name of the file you downloaded?
From the extension we can probably figure out how to go about installing it. Usually, drivers come with installers which you have to run. But maybe you just need to put the driver file in the correct folder. Downloads isn't it.

k8512mux.dmg
this is the file name. I also downloaded another file with the same extension and it started to work right away without me doing anything
Normally with a file like that you have to double click it. This opens up a "Disk image", which has either the installer or the driver in it. What is inside your disk image?
The disk image was a series of squiggles, so i looked again at the canon website.
Now i discover that his printer is not supported by my OS, which is a bit annoying.
I'm in the same boat, if you're all still around? I've been doing this for many years and can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. went thru the installation process twice but it's still not showing up. What am I missing?
