Bluetooth mouse don't work under XP

Bluetooth mouse don't work under XP

I can't get anything BT to work. Tried my Kensington BT mouse, my Apple BT mouse, and my cell phone.

Any ideas?

I trust you went through the pairing process? Did it succeed or fail at that point? I've had no real trouble with either my Kensington or my Logitech V270, other than the delay in automatically reacquiring the mouse after a reboot.

Randy, I follow the BT Install Wizard, and at the point where the 'flashlight' searches for devices and I'm with the mouse/s all over the computer it just doesn't find it...

I'm using my USB wacom tablet for the mouse at the moment... I'll keep on trying or just buy a USB mouse.

I don't mean to be rude, but you did put batteries in, right? And, most important, you did push the little, magic, unlabelled ⚠ button on the bottom, right? The device is only discoverable for about a minute after you do this, during which time the mouse wheel flashes blue.

Yes batteries and button all OK.

I have a problem in "bluetooth devices" > Options > when I click "turn discovery on" and click "apply" I get an error message that says it can't save my settings.

"Discoverability settings" and "Connection settings" are not saved.

I'm not going to lose my sleep over it...

I've read most of it, and while I can expect my Apple BT mouse not to work, the Kensington should. I believe some folks are using BT mice with no problems.

Bluetooth is included in the Apple drivers for Win XP.

Anyway, I'm not complaining. Just asking.

I experienced similar problems when pairing my Logitech v270. Make absolutely certain that the bluetooth drivers are installed correctly. After I did the initial install of all the mac drivers (from the mac driver CD), I restarted and STILL had to install the bluetooth drivers.

Do I just reinstall all the drivers, or is there a way to install only the BT ones?

My bt mouse works, the bt drivers had to be installed after the intial reboot, in the add hardware wizard that comes up then I chose to let windows find the driver and it found it on the disk and installed it.

My Apple BT mouse and keyboard work fine, but I do have to turn them off and on eachtime i restart XP.

Mouse: flip little laser cover up and down
Keyboard: flip on/off switch on bottom up and down

repeatedly click mouse and move it around.

In XP Bluetoth Devices>Options:
make sure to turn discovery on.

In XP Blutooth Devices>[your name]'s>proprties>servcies:
make sure "drivers for keyboard, mice etc (HID)" is checked.

It may help to open Bluetooth Devices when you turn your mouse or keyboard off/on at XP startup.

Some of these steps may be unessisary (for example clicking mouse alot), but this is what works for me. When I figure out the optimal streamlined approach, I'll post somehting.

confirmed:

With settings as described above, all I have to do to get the Apple BT Keyboard and Mouse working is turn them off and back on at XP restart. No need to open Bluetooth Devices Control Pannel or do anything else.

as stated above by johnathan, once you restart, the add new hardware wizard should pop up for the bluetooth that's built in to your MBP. At that point, insert your driver CD. It should be smooth sailing from there.
