iOS 6 disables wi-fi on sleep mode - disappointing

Me and my wife were planning to buy iPhones but because of this ubelievably stupid "smart" fature of the iOS 6 we are buying Android phones instead. Android never disconnects from Wi-Fi in sleep.

Really, Apple?! Couldn't you have added an option in the settings "Don't disconnect from Wi-Fi in sleep mode" ???

yesterday i sell my ******* iPhone 5, and i bought new iPhone 4s 64GB its on iOS 5.1.1,

ridiculously im getting the push notification, perfectly working, iOS6 have a lot of problem specially on iPhone 5, so i sugeest to sell your iP5 then buy a 4s, its just only the 4inch screen and A6 but it is non sense you wont ge notified, iOS 5.1.1 is the best iOS ever!

you know guys what was difference and same in iOS 5 & iOS 6? both are disconnecting wifi when locked or in sleep mode, but the "DIFFERENCE" is you can get notified in iOS 5.x.x but on iOS 6 you will not & Never unless you wake the phone or plug your device in Computer,

Restoring to new phone, Hard reset, changing to WPA, WPA2 from blah blah blah will never fix this frustrating ridiculous problem, unless get the update for next iOS,

I take the speedtest on iOS 6 and im getting 10mbps, but in iOS 5 its 30MBPS, looks like this is a software problem and need to update by apple,

alright after a week of testing at work this seems to be working for me...at work i have the phone in airplane mode with wifi on all day due to terrible coverage...ios 5 would push notifications all the time...ios 6 of course wasnt...

after a week of messing with stuff each day i come to work i simply power off my phone then turn back on...shouldnt have to do that but it seems to be working that way...phone in airplane with wifi on, and imessages, emails, and even words with friends telling me its my move is coming though...at work its a password protected broadcasting network.

now onto my home network...its a non broadcasting network and while i can connect it is slow and laggy to connect.

someone brought up in another thread about non broadcasting vs broadcasting networks, where the broadcasting ones were working better...all i know is when my wifi is working the wifi bars in the upper left of the screen, come on almost instantly while in the lock sreen...conversely when at my house it takes 3-4 seconds for the wifi bars to fire up...meaning while in sleep mode if i have no coverage, i'm not getting a notification.

you are wrong buddy, this problem needs update, and iPhone 5 is not perfectly working regards on network, believe me coz im a iPhone 5 user,

to all: this problem cannot be solve by restarting router, restoring network, hard reset, updating firmware router, and more more more blah blah blah, i spoke an apple tech, and they are aware of this,

according to them this is a software issue, and it needs UPDATE on iOS!

dont waste your time doing non sense things, cause this is all about software issue!

I've also stopped receiving push notification when my phone is sleeping after upgrading to iOS 6. The strange thing is, it doesnt work with my home WiFi, but works exactly as it should in the office at work. So i guess it must have something to do with the router/AP. At home, i have a Asus RT-N10, and it seems it cant wake up the iphone so the notifications can be delivered. At work i have a D-link DAP 2590 AP and it works just fine. both are using WPA2 personal security and all the other settings are similar. i dont know what it is, but the router/AP has definitely something to do with it

all are having problems with the same issue, try to call your viber to other iphone and remove your viber running,

As long viber is running in background, i can receive calls in my office but not at home. Same with whatsapp, gmail or imessages

I give up.

As previously posted I have an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (WiFi-only). After iOS 6 it stays connected at home (WPA) but not at the office (WPA2 Enterprise). Last week I went into iPad settings and did a reset on all Network settings. I then reconnected to my work WiFi and viola, it stayed connected all day (notifications, emails, everything). That was until I went home and came back the next day. Now it no longer stays connected to the work WiFi once again (home still works fine). So, I tried the same thing on the iPhone. I reset Network settings, blah blah. It stayed connected, I went home, came back the next day and it won't stay connected.

This is really frustrating and I can't seem to figure out what the heck it's doing...

iOS 6.0.1 and iPhone 4s. Here's my situation. I spend at least 3 months a year in a foreign country so my cellular data is always off and my wifi is always on. I am most certain that untill recently I have been receiving push notifications whan my phone is asleep.

A couple of days ago I bought a new modem. I don't realy know if it coincided with that but my iPhone stopped receiving notifications when asleep. I tried everything suggested with no avail. Seams though, that the wifi stays on whan something is requesting a conection in the background, an internet radio player for example. I am realy frustrated by this in the last couple of days (especially because I bought a windows phone with a carier in this country and have been waiting for an update that keeps wifi on in lock screen. they made the update and now there is an option to keep the wifi on. i don't see this as a feature but as normal behavior)

Seeing the responses I am trying to figure out if I went crazy and this happened all the time and that I just didn't notice it, or is it really a problem with my modem or the new iOS.

I tried two iPhone 5 sitting side by side each other. Both with no background apps running. It doesn't matter if they are plug into a power source or not. Both updated to 6.0.2.

I found that sometimes, both phones have wifi still on after sleep

Sometimes only one phone with wifi on. Sometimes the other phone.

I check their wifi status by going into my router's page

Wifi strength seems to play a role as well.

The only certain way that wifi remain on after sleep is to disable cellular data

But that just doesn't happen. Wifi shuts down even when cellular data is off. However I noticed that even though the Phone doesnt respond to ping, some notifications still go trough; mail for example.

Yap me too ,have the same problem with all of you guys.. not only on iphone but ipod touch 5th too..

is there any solution for this problem?

because i'm tired must push home button if i want to see new notification from social networking apps..

I have Ipad 3 wi-fi onlly (IOS 6.01) and iPhone 4s (IOS 6.01) and both of them stops receiving push notifications when in lock screen. iPhone will then use 3g if enabled so the problem for me is on iPad only.

What WI-FI router brand are you using? Mine is Netgear DGN220v3

It's a very SEROIUS problem.

ADDED LATER: it is doing the same thing if you create a Hotspot on iPhone and then connect the iPad to this hotspot, same behaviour, lost of connection and then no notifications for push events for any app. It's like to have a brick on the table but this iBrick cost a lot.
