Q: iOS 6 disables wi-fi on sleep mode - disappointing

Im use netgear too

At home, i have an Asus RT-N10 ---> push notifications don't work in sleep mode!

At the office i have a D-link DAP 2590 AP ----> push notifications work just fine.

both are using WPA2 personal security

but i think its apple problem not from the router..

and this is my first time have a problem like this because my blackberry and my android is never be like this for the wifi.. and both of them (bb and andoid) the wifi is doing well..

100% correct, definitely ios6.

Just bought the wife a ipad3 (wifi only) refurbed from apple, came with 5.1.1 on it. It gets emails pushed to it constantly, never fails. both of our iphones which have 6.0.1 won't get a single email without waking up the phone.

Both phones used to when they had 5.1.1...

Yap i think we must still waiting for the better ios update..

And i hope for the next ios can fix wifi problem.. But i dont know when that "better" ios will come and fix it lol

Something new is happening now. After changing so many setting on the router and then restore them to default settings, now the wi-fi iPad act like this: when screen is black it will not answer to ping but it is visible by a LAN scanner app like : net analyzer lite, I call the iPad from the iPhone using FaceTime and it answers. It seems that the wi-fi interface is active but in a modality maybe less battery consuming. When I wrote, hours ago, the iPad was not visible from the LAN scanner when in sleep mode and FaceTime call was not successfull and iMessage was not delivering anything to the iPad. I don't think that any iOS 6 device in the world is not receiving push notifications when on wi-fi and not plugged to the power. Surely there are some wi-fi problems. Not answering to a ping does not means that a device is not receiving, it could be that iOS stop some network services when in sleep mode to save battery. I like to discuss here so that we can try to understand how iOS works. Any comments are welcome.

My only comment is that this tread should be closed untill Apple isues an update that behaves diferently with WiFi when the device is locked. It is definitely a software problem, I tested this ocasionaly on every iPhone that I could get my hands on and it works the same: The WiFi turns off after a short period upon locking the screen. For me it stays avake if an app (internet radio or something like that) requires constant conection.

It is obvious that this is a software problem because it didn't happen in iOS versions previous 6.0, but (and this is the question that needs to be answered) this only happens with SOME ROUTER MODELS, and that's why not everybody is having this issue.

Well, the behavior of my phone is not that predictable when locked. For example, the wifi is definitely doing something in the background even though the sign disapears. I can still receive mail notifications and I am preety sure that I received a couple of facetime calls while the screen was locked for a longer time. Also the ping answer that I get from the phone is quite weird, at times it doesnt answer at all, and at times it gives me a weird answer that's something in the middle between off and on (it sounds moronic I know, but this is as specific as I will get because I dont want to bother myself with it any more, and I tested it a few weeks back). For other notifications, however, it just stays silent (Tweetboot for example). Also whan I turn on radio streeming I am complitely sure that the phone doesn't use cell data but WiFi which means that if an app requests it explicitely the WiFi stays on. If you ask me it's just a batery saver cunundrum that could (but, knowing Apple won't be) be fixed by a preference option to keep wifi on at all times. As for the introduction of it in iOS 6 I think that for me it coincided with the instalation of the new OS, but many forum treads indicate that people were reporting this same problem a few years back. The only solution I can think of is to send tons of feedback and get the problem some atention.

Now i allready ios 6.0.1 and it wont fix the wifi problem..

I noticed it myself.  Try turning off Cellular Data.  Settings - general - cellular - Cellular Data

When you are on the road or away from wifi service you can re-enable it.  It is kind of like not having your cake and eating it too.

With cellular data engaged the iphone uses phone network in preference to wiFi for data
