Trying to caputre a DVD in FCE using a canopus ADVC 55. We are seeing a message waiting for timecorde and device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled. Settings on FCE Easy set up will only allow us to use DV-PAL Firewire basic.
Can you help please?
Open FCE and from the top cascading menu Finasl Cut Express>Easy Setup and select the DV-PAL DV Converter option assuming you are a PAL user.
Start a NEW Project as only newly created Projects will be reconized by the newly adjusted Easy Setup not existing ones.

Use PAL only if you're in a PAL country; use NTSC if you're in an NTSC country. Make sure the ADVC55 is set up for the proper output via Firewire.
Once you have the settings correct in FCE and on the ADVC55, start the video playing on the playback device and hit the Capture Now button in FCE.

We live in Ireland so PAL is correct for us to use. All settings are correct as follows;
1. We wish to transfer a DVD (our own copyright) into an Apple Mac Model OS10 version 10.5.8 using Final Cut Express and using a Canopus Model ADVC-55 converter.
2. We have connected the Canopus ADVC-55 to the Toshiba DVD player using the Video IN Port, the Audio (L) In Port and the Audio IN Port.
3. We have connected the correct power supply to the Canopus.
4. We have connected the Canopus to the Apple Mac using the Firewire supplied (IEEE1394 six pin) (No.1 is switched on 2-6 switched off on the Canopus)
5. We have opened FCE and using Easy Set Up we have selected DV-PAL Firewire Basic.
6. We then switch on the Toshiba DVD Player.
7. We then select new project in Final Cut and the window shows "VRT OK".
8. We then select "Capture Now" and a window opens and advises as follows: "Waiting for Time Code", Device must be in VTR mode, when device control is enabled.
9. When we select " DV PAL DV Converter in Easy set up as suggested, We get a window reading, "Preview disabled" and "no connection.
Anyone that can help please??
You have to use the DV Converter option. Start a New Project as well after setting the DV option.
Start the DVD player manually and hit the Esacpe to stop capture.
DV Converter is for non-controllable devices which is why you get No Communication.
So hit the play button on the DVD and see if capturing fires up. 🙂
