Q: Temp fix for iOS 6 not pushing Exchange mail

All,

If you are reading this, you are probable having the same problem as I am:

After you switched to the iPhone 5, Exchange mail is no longer PUSHing to your device.  I have done testing and this problem affects:

1) iPhone 5's running connecting to Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 servers.

This does not effect:

1) my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 Beta 6.0 10A5376e

Troubleshooting:

1) Wiped phone and started with completely fresh iOS 6 on my iPhone 5. The only thing I did was add my exchange account.

-Still had same issue.

** How to fix this issue:

1. Go to Mail, Contacts, and Calendar.  Click "Fetch New Data".  Make sure push is on.

2.  Go back to Mail, Contact, and Calendar.  Click on your exchange account. Click on "Days to Sync".  Even if it is set to what you want this on, chance it to a different setting (i.e. 1 week).  You can change this back later, but this is the only way to fix it.

3. Go back to Mail COntact and Calendar.  Click on "Show".  No matter what this setting is on, change it to a different setting. (i.e. 100 recent messages).

4.  Reboot your iPhone 5

5.  Exchange PUSH will be working now.

Thanks,

Clay

Bizarre.  Staarting at about 7:30 mine just started working and has been working since.  I did not change anything.  Is anyone else having a similar experience?

This issue is not specific to the iPhone 5 or Verizon, it is specific to IOS 6.  I have the iPhone 4 and AT&T and am having this issue with my Intermedia Exchange accounts.  Before IOS 6 -- no problems.

I was able to permanately fix my issues with Exchange active sync. I was also having issues with iMessage not working. They would only work temporarily after I rebooted the phone. I also had lots of push crashes on my iPhone 5 under diagnostics & logging.

I decided to try one for thing before I returned it & got a Samsung. I haven't had any issues since & the crashes stopped. I'm just sharing what worked for me so be careful if you decide to do this.

    1. Connect your phone to iTunes & back it up to your pc.

    2. Turn the phone off & boot the phone into DRU mode. You can google how to do that but essentially hold down the home button then hold the top button for exactly 10 sec. Release & iTunes should say you are now in recovery mode.

    3.  Once in DRU mode click restore & iTunes will go out & re-download ios6 & reinstall it on the phone. This is the only way I could fix my phone, by reinstalling the entire iOS.

I haven't had any push or iMessage issues since. Also the push crashes haven't come back.

I'm not sure why some iPhone 5's are having this issue but it seems by reinstalling the entire iOS seems to work (for me at least)

    Hi Greg,

I'll give that a shot and see if it works.

    Thanks for the tip.

A DFU restore? Ugh... If it's a software bug, I can't see how this is a permanent fix as you're just restoring the same software. Something getting corrupted as the phone gets used?

If someone's going to test this, maybe restore to factory and go a few days without syncing your apps and data?

It just got worse for me overnight - no notifications came in whatsoever. No Exchange or iCloud emails, no Groupon notifications. Went into Mail and it instantly downloaded the mail and issued the notifications.

    Restarted and notifications worked again.

This has worked for me also, ever since last night.

"When I am connected to Wi-Fi and I turn off cellular data, everything works as it should"

This is still not acceptable, but it is working for me on wifi only.  This is the only thing that has worked for more than 10 minutes.

Yep.  It works for everyone that way but thats not a fix, just a workaround.

Do you still see push crashes in the logging? I think my issues directly were caused by the push crashes I was seeing on my phone. Reinstalling ios6 using DRU mode seemed to fix that for me. Not one crash so far & my exchange push & iMessage has worked since.

DFU restore also failed for me as well.  Given the prior posts, I also disabled LTE and went to 3G on the phone. That failed, too.  I see above that users saying this isn't just the iPhone 5, but the majority here find it is.  Again, our iPads and earlier iPhone push mail on Exchange work just fine with iOS6.  Unless there is some esoteric iOS 6 bug on all devices that somehow manifests itself more frequently on the iPhone 5, I still think Frank is on target. It's an iPhone 5 issue with how LTE devices connect.

Yes, we all are. What is particularly galling is that this is the third time Apple has broken push notifications in iOS updates. They have such long Beta periods and they can't find these basic problems?

This is a basic function. You never hear of Android or BlackBerry having these problems...

Please keep always in your mind that your exchange might be connected to more than 5 handset ( iPhone - iPad )

Please see the following from Microsoft server

You have 6 phone partnerships out of the maximum allowed 5 partnerships. After you reach the maximum, you can't create additional partnerships until you delete existing ones from your account. To do so, sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Mobile Phones, and delete any unused partnerships.

This has already been raised, and it is not the cause of the problem.
